Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Human Resources (HR) Director in Dulles, VA, supporting our Engineering and Products and Operations Business Units in the Tactical Space Systems Division. The HR Director serves as a strategic business partner providing day-to-day support to the two Business Unit Vice Presidents (BU VP) and the BU senior leadership team in the accomplishment of business objectives. The primary function of the role is to be a strategic partner and consultant to two BUs to develop a human capital strategy to attract, engage, develop and retain the talent necessary to meet current and future state BU strategic goals.
The selected candidate will lead a team consisting of a HR Manager and HR Business Partners responsible for the implementation of HR strategy. The incumbent will lead human capital programs and core processes across the BUs including but not limited to talent assessment and development, performance management, employee relations, labor relations, total rewards, succession planning and talent pipeline development, organization effectiveness and leadership development.
The role requires strategic thought leadership, organizational and project management skills in a high paced environment, ability to influence stakeholders at all levels, strong business acumen and problem-solving capabilities. The candidate must demonstrate executive level communication skills, ability to collaborate in a complex matrixed environment, ability to leverage data and analytics to drive business outcomes and a results-oriented focus aligned to our business goals, leadership behaviors, and values.
Roles and responsibilities include the following:
- Support sector and division HR strategy and initiatives aligned to sector and division matrix.
- Leverage data insights and trends to identify BU business challenges and proactively partner with and influence BU leadership to strategize business solutions.
- Develop and lead planning, design, implementation, communication and delivery of high impact HR initiatives across the BU.
- Drive BU leadership and HR team accountability for the application of performance management process and tools, and on-going coaching.
- Lead BU performance alignment process and total rewards sessions.
- Partner with BU leadership to develop BU talent management, succession planning and talent review strategy to bolster technical and functional talent capability and pipeline.
- Partner with BU leadership to identify talent retention strategies across the BU which drive best in class employee experience (leveraging total rewards, company mission and values, best in class culture, career development and employee flexibility).
- Lead, analyze, and present employee survey data and key themes to senior leadership; support leadership action plan development.

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in HR or related field with 10+ years of HR experience – OR – a Master's degree in HR related field with 8+ years of HR experience.
- Experience managing and leading teams with a focus on inspiring and empowering an inclusive, development-focused, and high-performing HR BU team.
- Excellent HR and business acumen with the ability to influence, coach, and consult with multiple senior executives.
- Experience proactively identifying trends, risks, and opportunities and advocating for improvements.
- Ability to leverage HR processes, tools and data/data analytics to accelerate business results and enhancing business and employee growth and the employee experience.
- Change management experience, problem-solving and time management skills
- Proven ability to lead complex cross-functional projects to completion.
- Executive level verbal and written communication skills.
- US citizenship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in Aerospace & Defense and/or government contracting.
- Experience leading a team as a HR manager responsible for multiple HR disciplines.
- Proficiency with HRIS platforms and technology (Workday, Confluence, SharePoint).
- Experience working in a matrix environment.
