Omitron has a full-time position open for an SDA Metrics Analysis Technical Lead in Colorado Springs, CO. This individual will be a TS/SCI-cleared Senior Systems Engineer leading Space Domain Awareness (SDA) Metrics development and Space Surveillance Performance Analysis. This position is for the Team Lead supporting the HQ Space Operations Command (SpOC) S3 (Operations) and S9 (Analysis) staffs with significant support to the 18th Space Defense Squadron (18 SDS) and the National Space Defense Center (NSDC). This position will also provide analytical support related to the DoD’s Space Surveillance Network (SSN) and its various worldwide sensors. Furthermore, this position will provide analytical support and operational tools, with associated development and maintenance support, to 18 SDS and the NSDC.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Guiding a small team of engineers and/or analysts and providing technical leadership on projects of varying size and complexity  
  • Coordinating team’s efforts to create solutions to meet reporting requirements and other customer needs 
  • Acting as the customer’s primary interface for technical matters  
  • Coordinating requirements with the customer, articulating solutions, and developing the test methodology to verify them  
  • Performing software troubleshooting and maintenance 
  • Designing and developing new performance metrics and associated processing code  
  • Enhancing existing code and metrics in coordination with new customer requirements and recommendations from users/community of interest  
  • Supporting the development, testing, and delivery of data products and operational tools using knowledge of at least one scripting or programming language (e.g., Matlab) 
  • Performing analyses or engineering studies, specifically on SSN performance and related SDA topics 
  • Verifying team members’ analytical approaches and results 
  • Preparing technical presentations and/or papers documenting approaches and results 
  • Reviewing/approving and guiding team members in the production of monthly or quarterly metrics related to the following areas of interest: 
    • Space catalog completeness 
    • Space catalog accuracy 
    • SSN and sensor general performance 
    • Sensor tracking of known and unknown space objects 
    • Sensor tasking and response to tasking 
    • Sensor observation accuracy 
  • Reviewing/approving and guiding team members in the production of an annual report that annotates the trends and root causes identified for metrics mentioned above  
  • Developing scripts or other small software tools for capturing new metrics, highlighting operational situations of interest, or allowing more expeditious data processing and guiding team members to do the same 
  • Performing software troubleshooting and maintenance 
  • Leading/performing analyses or engineering studies, specifically on SSN and related SDA topics 
  • Preparing technical presentations and/or papers documenting approaches and results 
  • Some travel may be required
 
Minimum Requirements:
  • US Citizenship required.
  • Security Clearance: TS with SCI eligibility
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics (or a similar field)
  • Experience: 5 years relevant experience
  • Experience with Matlab programming language
  • Familiarity with SSN sensors, especially with regard to space object tasking and tracking, and sensor calibration
  • Familiarity with statistics and probability
 
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with Linux operating system
  • Experience with other software development languages, such as:  
    • Python, Perl, Shell/Bash, Java, AWK, Wish/Tcl/Tk, SQL, Fortran, C/C++ 
  • Familiarity with CAVENet, 18 SDS’s operational network used for SSN sensor tasking and space object orbital maintenance
  • Familiarity with Orbital Analysis
  • Ability to apply problem-solving methodologies to complex or ambiguous problems  
  • Ability to articulate technical concepts both orally and in written forms 
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills 
  • Ability to coordinate with multiple large Government, Civil, and Private Sector organizations that may have disparate and/or competitive goals  
  • Ability to authoritatively defend team members’ approaches and results via both operational/real-world and academic experiences 
 
Compensation and Benefits:
The salary range for this role is $130,000 to $160,000 depending on relevant experience, location, and other factors.
