Position Purpose: The Mechatronics Engineer I will become a crucial member of the BCT Components team with contributions to space mechanism design, analysis, optimization, and characterization across all phases of the product lifecycle as well as supporting both internal and external spacecraft teams in meeting their mission objectives.

Pay Range: $70,000 - $110,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist in continuous improvement of all aspects of product lifecycle for electromechanical systems for spaceflight including conceptualization, detailed design, initial and reoccurring production, and test support
  • Document product requirements, design details, interfaces and test plans, procedures, processes, and results in collaboration with other team members
  • Aid in non-conformance investigation, resolution, and closure
  • Develop custom equipment as required to improve production and test efficiency
  • Assist meetings and technical exchanges with internal spacecraft teams and external customers
  • Other responsibilities as assigned


Required Qualifications/Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent discipline.
  • General knowledge of motors, actuators, sensors, controls and/or robotic system considerations and design
  • General experience designing against competing requirements (e.g., performance, power, mass, complexity, schedule, costs, etc.)
  • Intermediate experience in at least one common CAD system (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360, CATIA, etc.)
  • Intermediate experience programming in at least one common software language (e.g., MATLAB, Python, C/C++, Java, LabView)
  • Intermediate experience with PCB/PCBA design and/or integration of off-the-shelf electrical subsystems (e.g., Arduino) or sensors
  • Comfortable working on interdisciplinary teams including mechanical, electrical and software engineers
  • Ability to perform detailed trade studies and parametric analyses with senior engineer supervision
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills and willingness to learn
  • Hands-on skills (e.g., soldering, mechanical and/or electronics assembly, 3D printing, laser cutting, machining, etc.) are desired
  • Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education


Working Conditions:

This job operates in a professional office environment, but in a manufacturing company. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines.  BCT anticipates the application window closing approximately 40 days from the date the notice was posted.
