Job description

Here at the The Exploration Company we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refueled in orbit, and which carries cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.

We want you as a talented Thermal engineer intern to help us in our mission by contributing to the development, justification and validation of our vehicle. As Thermal Engineer intern, you will be in charge of supporting the thermal control system definition and justification of the vehicle. You will work closely with our mechanical, Avionics CAD and AIT engineers to optimize together the vehicle design and performance. You will be part of the Vehicle Design Team and will report to the Principal Thermal Engineer.

Key Responsibilities

In your capacity as a Thermal Engineer Intern, your role will be continuously evolving, but day to day your duties will include:
  • To build the thermal and hydraulic models of the vehicle, with the right level of complexity depending on the maturity and the goals of the study
  • To perform the thermal and hydraulic analyses during the various phases of the vehicle (ground, under fairing, orbital phases, reentry)
  • To support the team in the thermal control system architecture maturation and accommodation based on the analyses
  • To support the team in procuring the various components for the test bench and the thermal control system prototype
  • To contribute to the creation and improvement of the thermal analysis tools
  • To effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation, and presentation of technical data
  • To write technical documentation and participate to reviews of designed systems

What we would love to see from you

  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering or similar
  • Good experience in Heat & Mass transfer and fluid dynamics
  • Experience with thermal analysis tools (Thermal Desktop, ESATAN, Thermica)
  • Experience with CFD (Fluent or equivalent) is a plus
  • Experience with programming (Python, Matlab...) is a plus
  • Fluent in English. German and French are an asset
  • Ability to work equally well unsupervised or as part of a team
  • Strong organizing and prioritization of tasks
  • Positive and flexible attitude to get the job done
  • Ability to communicate at all levels
  • Demonstrates behavior consistent with The Exploration Company’s core values of Commitment, Innovation, Trust, Quality and Teamwork
