Summary
Redwire Sensor group is a developer of satellite power system solutions, flight cameras, and imaging systems. We have an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Manager, Systems Engineering in our Littleton facility to lead the systems engineering team and fulfill the role of “product owner” in Redwire’s Agile development process. This role will be instrumental in leading the system engineering team including engineering talent, design, development, testing, and controls for all space offerings and programs. You will be a key leader within the engineering team, reporting to the Vice President of Engineering for Sensor and Component Teams with other engineering functional managers serving as peers within the organization.
The Systems Engineering function within the Sensor engineering team is responsible for providing product and technology architecture ownership with product development teams. Within the product development life cycle, system engineers develop product architecture and functional derivations, own system, and production functional modeling, conduct and lead trade studies, conduct requirement decomposition and management, and develop and manage verification and validation plans.
Responsibilities
- Establish the Systems Engineering discipline and provide functional and product leadership.
- Strategically position the system engineering team for growth through recruitment of top engineering talent.
- Provide engineering leadership for proposals and active space hardware development projects.
- Conduct supervision, including managing priorities, hiring, performance management, mentorship, career growth and succession management of system engineering staff.
- Support the projecting of system engineering staffing demands and manage resource allocation for active and forecasted projects.
- Establish and report team metrics to Sensor leadership to monitor team performance, skills bench depth, and on-time-delivery of engineering data.
- Support the implementation of system engineering department process and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Propose, establish, and manage implementation of tools to improve efficiency and performance of the engineering team.
- Provides inputs to department budgeting, organizational strategic planning, and project planning.
- Participate in proposal activity by developing and/or reviewing execution plans, developing estimate and a basis of estimates for task execution, and reviewing project costs.
- Participate in product development project execution as necessary; typically reviewing project plans and engineering data, identifying risks and opportunities, and supporting/managing issue resolution.
- Evaluate new technologies for application in improving the design of aerospace systems.
- Support internal research and development planning and project execution.
Ideal Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Aerospace or related field.
- Proven track record of product development experience across 15 or more years.
- Expert knowledge and experience with Systems Engineering tools and methods.
- At least 5 years of prior success managing a team, ideally a geographically dispersed team.
- Experience in requirement decomposition and management strategies.
- Experience with product roadmaps and technology maturation planning.
- Strong attention to detail with advanced verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with stage-gate review processes and Agile development methods.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and demands time.
- Experience developing or owning processes within an AS9100 or similar accredited environment.
- Ability to travel - an average of 5% travel may be required.
Desired Skills
- 10 years or more years’ experience in aerospace engineering or space-related discipline
- Post graduate degree in Engineering, Aerospace, or related fields.
- Recognized space industry specialist with insight into multiple engineering fields and disciplines.
- Experience and training in safe handling protocols for flight hardware, including cleanroom and ESD standards.
- Comprehensive understanding of space design best practices and lessons learned.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office 365, including SharePoint and Team. Microsoft Project experience a plus.
Salary Range $174,000 - $215,000
