Summary
We have a current opportunity for an Optical and Algorithm Engineering Manager on site at our facility in Marlborough, MA. This position provides product and technical direction to the Algorithm and Optics engineering team and, more broadly, helps to lead Redwire sensor products. Your responsibilities include collaborating with the engineering team and Redwire product management to drive the development, verification, and validation of our Camera optical systems, payload optical systems, star tracker navigational sensors, and other optics-related sensors or products. Additionally, you will be directly involved in specifying, designing, and implementing optical test systems for camera or star tracker systems. Testing will include qualification to ensure the design meets specifications, and acceptance testing to ensure the manufactured product meets specifications and manufacturing performance metrics. You will also directly interface with customers to review their needs and present optics solutions that meet mission requirements..
Responsibilities
• Provide managerial and technical oversight to the optics and modeling & simulation teams.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary product teams across multiple Redwire sites as a subject matter expert in optics.
• Work with Redwire business and product development leaders to help drive the optical and navigational product roadmap.
• Lead research and product development efforts to optimize the performance of Redwire’s optics and baffle systems.
• Provide pre-sales support for concept/feasibility studies and post-sales product support.
• Develop and validate test concepts for Redwire-developed optical solutions.
• Contribute to the specification and design of test solutions for Redwire navigational products.
• Communicate complex engineering concepts to an audience appropriate to the context of the discussion.
• Present and defend solutions to customers at interim and major milestone events like SRR, PDR, and CDR.
• Work with verification and manufacturing test teams to turn concepts into working systems.
• Use a basic principles approach to interpret and analyze physical systems.
• Mentor, coach, train, guide, direct and advise junior staff.
Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree in aerospace engineering, physics, mathematics, computer science, or similar field. Master’s degree or higher preferred.
• Knowledge of the spacecraft lifecycle (I&T, operations, etc.) Troubleshooting spacecraft anomalies, whether as part of design, testing, or operations.
• Strong background in mathematics and physics as it pertains to light and refraction.
• In-depth knowledge of the properties of light and optics.
• Expertise in geometrical optics design and phenomenology.
• Background in experimental design and error analysis.
• Have the ability to help internal and external customers make decisions with incomplete information.
Desired Skills
• Understanding of advanced mathematics and its application in radiometric and optical systems.
• Understanding of the design and application of camera lenses
• Understanding of the principles around stray light rejection with baffle systems.
• Excellent working knowledge of Matlab.
• Experience with relevant software such as Zemax OpticStudio, TracePro, FRED or related optics tools.
