Job description

Here at The Exploration Company we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit, and which carries cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.

We want you as a talented Data Handling Engineer to help us in our mission by designing, developing, testing and integrating the data handling avionics systems.

Key Responsibilities

In your capacity as a Data Handling Engineer, your role will be continuously evolving, but day to day your duties will include:
  • Defining the architecture of the Data Handling and Communication systems based on High Level Requirements defined in collaboration with our systems engineers, based on our customer’s needs. To define this architecture, you will perform all required trade-offs, especially regarding fault tolerance and required reliability. This task will cover the following topics
    • computer elements
    • standard communication buses (Ethernet, RS422, CAN, SpaceWire, ….)
    • interface units interfacing all the equipment of the satellite
  • Detailing the onboard management functions through functional models and detailed simulations
  • Generating specifications for all equipment included in this system by flowing down the systems requirements, based on the architecture
  • Selecting existing equipment compliant with these specifications or following development/adaptation of equipment to fit our needs (by external suppliers or internally)
  • Defining and performing integration/validation/qualification tests for this system
  • Supporting AIT activities on the flight models

What we would love to see from you

In the role of Data Handling Engineer ideally, you will have the following:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science (hardware and software), electronics or similar field
  • Interest in highly technical work, from the high-level requirements to the final details for manufacturing and assembly
  • High autonomy and proactive attitude
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong working relationships.
  • Experience in embedded systems definition , real time software, network and protocol definition, multi-core processors, embedded communication bus and systems modelisation
  • Space enthusiast: ready to change the European space industry
