Terran Orbital is seeking a Mission Operations Engineer to join our growing team. Reporting to the Mission Operations Manager, the Mission Operations Engineer would be responsible for developing and distributing reports summarizing technical analysis, findings, and recommendations to include monthly and annual satellite health and status reports and anomaly resolution reports. The Mission Operations Engineer is also involved in mission operations planning, commissioning, and on-orbit operations for the state-of-the-art satellites Terran Orbital develops. As part of a collaborative team, the Mission Operations Engineer will develop the mission operations architecture including tasking, procedures, anomaly resolution, vehicle control interface, and automated data delivery. 
 
Key Duties and Responsibilities 
  • Work closely with electrical, mechanical, software, and systems engineers to develop optimal solutions to complex problems.
  • Implement and iterate improvements to operations procedures associated with vehicle commissioning and mission operations.
  • Operate Terran Orbital space vehicles for commissioning, on-orbit operations, and anomaly resolution
  • Provide operations support during vehicle Assembly, Integration, and Test.
  • Help to maintain and improve Terran Orbitals Command Control and Data Diagnostics database and display screens.
  • Participate in team discussions to develop innovative vehicle architecture and operations for future missions aimed to full vehicle automation and on-board data management.
  • Help to develop and test automation and data analytics tools in either C++ or Python. This includes analyzing long term trends through data analysis and improving web-based application interfaces.
  • Monitor, assess, and maintain the operational health of in-orbit spacecraft. Includes defining, developing, and executing pass plans, which may include spacecraft configuration changes.
  • Perform complex analysis to monitor the health of systems and subsystems throughout the satellites lifecycle.
  • Assist in identifying, investigating, and resolving highly complex spacecraft system and subsystem deviations and anomalies.
  • Support the development of satellite operations procedures, products, and processes, working directly with hardware development teams within the company.
  • Develop and distribute reports summarizing technical analysis, findings, and recommendations.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualification And Skills 
  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering or similar engineering or technical field 
  • 3+ years experience with spacecraft mission operations 
  • A working knowledge of spacecraft system engineering and space-to-ground communications 
  • Able to manage a diverse set of programs and requirements therein 
  • Ability to disseminate critical engineering effectively and clearly 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills  
  • Critical thinking and ability to operate under high stress and rapidly evolving situations 
  • Energy and passion for inventing and creating new solutions, challenging the status quo, and driving positive change 
  • Ability and willingness to go above and beyond one’s comfort zone when it comes to learning about other engineering disciplines 
Additional Differentiators  
  • Working knowledge of RF systems, ground network systems, and/or guidance, navigation, and control systems
  • Experience with the development of spacecraft mission CONOPs definitions
  • Experience with spacecraft design
  • Knowledge of space domain and orbital mechanics
  • Knowledge of spacecraft subsystems and system interdependence

Salary Range $90,000-$120,000 
 
Your actual level and base salary will be determined case-by-case and may vary based on the job-related qualification, knowledge, skills, education, and experience. Physical Demands
An employee must meet the physical demands described to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. In performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely required to sit or stand for long durations of time, in addition to bending, reaching, and walking. This would require the ability to lift or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds. This position is generally sedentary, with substantial computer usage. 
Work Environment
The job operates in a professional office environment but in a manufacturing company. This job routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and scanners.
