Job description

Astranis is on a mission to bridge the digital divide by connecting the four billion people worldwide who currently lack internet access. We're doing this by building the next generation of smaller, more cost-effective spacecraft to bring the world online.

As a team, we’ve launched two satellites into orbit,  signed ten commercial deals worth over $1 billion in revenue, raised over $500 million from top global investors, and recruited a team of over 300 world-class engineers. We all work out of our (legendary) San Francisco office, which was once used to build ships during the World Wars.

Our satellites, which operate from geostationary orbit (GEO), weigh only 400 kg and utilize a proprietary software-defined radio payload. Each satellite can connect over two million people, and we’re very excited for the impact we’ll soon have in the Philippines, Peru, Mexico, and more!

Backed by substantial funding and a passionate, collaborative team, we offer a rewarding work environment where you'll learn and make a significant impact, no matter where you are in your career.

Apply and join us on our journey towards global connectivity!

As an Operations Manager at Astranis, you'll be working on both high-level strategy and granular tactics, and making a huge impact. This role is perfect for someone who's ready to tackle challenges head-on, no matter the scale. We are looking for the superstars, the go-getters, the "I can do this" believers who are ready to dive into a range of impactful projects. If you’re the type who thrives in a vibrant, ever-evolving environment, if you're the person on the team that is always first to jump to action and can knock every project out of the park, if you are incredibly smart and high-energy, if you are the ultimate problem solver and never back away from a challenge, and if you’re hungry to learn and lead, we want to talk to you.

Role

  • Your job is to find the biggest fire and help put it out. Sometimes that means working alongside engineers in our production facility, sometimes it's building systems that our finance team can use to track payments, and sometimes it's flying to the Middle East to meet with prospective customers. As a jack-of-all-trades, this role is not dedicated to any one team or problem, and gets to touch all parts of the business.
  • Operations Managers are like the Lewis and Clark of Astranis — when there is new and uncharted territory (i.e. when we're facing a new challenge that we've never had to deal with before), our Operations Managers are the ones tasked with venturing out into the unknown and figuring things out for the first time. No day is the same, and no challenge too big.
  • You will initiate, design, and lead projects that are the first of their kind at Astranis. What starts as a challenge under your leadership might evolve into a critical team or department within our company.
  • You will develop systems and processes in real-time, ensuring that our rapid growth is matched by robust and scalable frameworks. Your work will immediately impact our operations and long-term success.
  • This is a very collaborative role, and you will work closely with various teams and leadership to identify gaps and strategically address them. Your ability to coordinate and innovate will foster improvements that resonate throughout the company.
  • With freedom to shape your role, you’ll identify where the company needs you most. After pinpointing these opportunities, you’ll spearhead initiatives to address them, crafting your path and growing your responsibilities.

Requirements

  • 5+ years working in a role where you got to demonstrate exceptional problem-solving skills and impactful results.
  • Comfortable working in a busy, ever-changing environment and adept at bringing order to chaos with strategic foresight.
  • Strong reasoning and analytical abilities, coupled with creative resourcefulness to solve complex problems.
  • Extremely organized and detail-oriented, with a mastery of managing multiple, often competing priorities.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at once and prioritize accordingly, maintaining sharp focus to deliver on key objectives.
  • Strong communication skills, not just articulate but persuasive and capable of rallying teams behind your vision.
  • Available to work full-time in our San Francisco office, ready to be at the heart of operations where your influence will be felt strongest.
What we offer:

All our positions offer a compensation package that includes equity and robust benefits.

Base pay is a single component of Astranis's total rewards package, which may also include equity in the form of incentive stock options, high quality company-subsidized healthcare, disability and life insurance benefits, flexible PTO, 401(K) retirement, and free on-site catered meals.

Astranis pay ranges are informed and defined through professional-grade salary surveys and compensation data sources. The actual base salary offered to a successful candidate will additionally be influenced by a variety of factors including experience, credentials & certifications, educational attainment, skill level requirements, and the level and scope of the position.
Base Salary
$100,000$145,000 USD
U.S. Citizenship, Lawful Permanent Residency, or Refugee/Asylee Status Required
(To comply with U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the United States, or other protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3))

Our mission and our products are meant to connect the world and everyone in it, regardless of gender, race, creed, or any other distinction. We believe in a diverse and inclusive workplace, and we encourage all people to join our team and bring their unique perspective to help make us stronger.
