The Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analysis-based decision support to senior leaders on space architectures, policy and strategy, developmental planning, system of systems engineering, and threat reduction to help shape future space missions across the national security space enterprise. DSG is unique at Aerospace as it not only directly supports major customers, including United States Space Force, United States Space Command, Air Force Material Command, and senior leadership at the Pentagon, but also provides a broad range of services and support across the national space enterprise, maintaining vertical responsibilities with customers but also horizontal, matrixed responsibilities across the corporation.

The Enterprise Mission Infrastructure and Platform team (EMIP) supports these customers in acquiring and developing enterprise infrastructure capabilities, utilizing the latest in information system technologies, such as elastic compute clouds, containerization, microservices, real-time operating systems, and visualization frameworks, with expertise in cyber security, software architecture, software engineering, process improvement, and software development to deliver responsive, resilient, high-performance software intensive systems to our IC, DoD, and civilian customers.  Some of our direct customers include Space Systems Command (SSC) Battle Management Command and Control (BMC3), Operational Test and Training Infrastructure (OTTI), the Space Warfighting Analysis Center (SWAC) and others. 

Work Model

This is a hybrid on-site/remote position located in Colorado Springs with customer location support at 2424 Garden of the Gods Rd.  This is a hybrid work model requiring at least 3 regular onsite workdays and remote flexibility as the business needs allow.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • The position will be supporting the Enterprise Mission Infrastructure and Platform team’s customers in developing architectures, roadmaps, technical capabilities, and products that support the needs of the warfighter.
  • This role will be to lead technology investigation initiatives, work with vendors, the government, other FFRDC organizations and various contractors to prototype, demonstrate and deliver cyber secure platform capabilities to the warfighters at several space force bases, customer locations in Colorado and undisclosed mission sites.
  • Engage with commercial technology leaders in discussing product and technology roadmaps and translating those into strategic opportunities for National Security Space (NSS) Ground Enterprise
  • Assisting in maintaining the Aerospace Advanced Technologies Lab (A-ATL), which is distributed between Colorado Springs and El Segundo.  This includes the cyber posture of the lab, upkeep of the VMware Cloud and Red Hat Cloud technologies and the integrations with Starlink, Darksky, AWS and other cloud interconnects.
  • Lead innovation in the key technologies for use in ground systems from the edge to the cloud.  The EMIP group performs analysis, testing demonstrations of leading platform, cloud, cyber security technologies and works with vendors on demonstrations on behalf of the customer.
  • Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned as needed.

What You Need to be Successful - Senior Project Engineer

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited program in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Software or related fields.
  • Ten or more years related experience and a minimum of 2 years of experience in architecture for software-intensive systems, preferably in the space system domain.
  • Ability to interact and build effective relationships and teams with government customers, other FFRDCs, contractors, and Aerospace personnel.
  • Cloud-based platform work such as AWS, Oracle, Google or Azure.
  • Hands on experience with Red Hat or other Linux Operating Systems.
  • Hands on experience with VMware products such as Cloud Foundation, Cloud Director, NSX-T and Carbon Black.
  • This position requires a TS/SCI clearance or higher, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Masters in STEM fields or Systems or Security Management
  • Demonstrated knowledge in Zero-Trust architectures, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code such as Ansible, Puppet, JSON, Terraform or vRealize.
  • Demonstrated engagement with commercial technology leaders in discussing product and technology roadmaps and translating those into insertion opportunities for USSF customers.
  • Knowledge of trends in the Cyber Security and how technology advances are enabling new capabilities within this domain.
  • Current TS/SCI along with additional accesses
