The Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) is looking for Sr. Staff Software Engineer to support our Vehicle Management System (VMS) software team. The location for this opportunity is Melbourne, Florida and will be primarily based within our office spaces to support program and business needs. Operating on our 9/80 schedule meaning you will get every Friday off. The position has NO remote or Hybrid work available.

We are looking for a candidate to support the Missions Systems software product team supporting the program as a team lead. This is a vital position to this classified program in support of critical software design and development. Candidate will be responsible for developing real time embedded mission system requirements, architecture, software, and tests. Candidate will work under only general direction, independently determines, and develops approaches to solutions supporting the program needs. Candidate will act as a liaison from time to time with frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts.

This division is a multi-site, multi-sector effort. The Candidate shall be willing to travel to other sites to support TIMs, integration efforts, and other software related tasking. The Candidate shall also be willing to adjust work schedule to meet the needs of across the nation as required.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide technical solutions to a wide range of complex difficult problems that are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with programs objectives

  • In depth understanding and wide application of technical principle, theories, and concepts in the field listed under the basic qualifications

  • Design, develop, document, test and debug applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions

  • Conduct multidisciplinary research when needed and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product

  • Follows and ensures software standards are met

  • Support as the product team lead

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 14 years of software engineering experience OR

  • Master’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 12 years of software engineering experience

  • PhD in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 9 years of software engineering experience

  • Experience in object-oriented analysis and design

  • Experience developing software with languages such as C/C++ and Java (focus on C++)

  • Experience with Linux/Unix and Windows development

  • An active in-scope DoD Secret or Top-Secret level clearance

  • Experience with Missions Systems software development

  • Experience with Stores Management software development

  • Experience leading a team of 5+ software engineers for a minimum of 2 years

  • Experience Northrop Grumman’s COMSA/CMSS software baselines

  • Experience with Government Refence Architecture compliance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other related field with 12+ years’ experience

  • Able to collaborate in a team environment

  • Able to work independently and identify solutions to complex problems

  • Able to perform work in an approved environment during specified work hours

  • Experience in US Government Working Groups and/or Consortiums

  • Preference to work in software/hardware integration and rapid prototyping

  • Experience leading mission systems software with supplier sensor integrations and demonstrations

  • Experience supporting technical maturation demonstrations in support of capture efforts

Salary Range: $158,200.00 - $237,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
