GNC RPO Engineer [F/M]

Exotrail is looking for a GNC Engineer for its space transportation vehicle with a focus on RPO and proximity operations. This person will be integrated in the project team for our Rendez-vous satellite mission. The responsibility will be to ensure the performance requested for the GNC system during the mission from development to operations in space, including decommissioning of the spacecraft. You will be in interaction between spacecraft system engineers, embedded software and mission analyst engineers and perform all tasks related to the GNC in the spacecraft development.

The current spacevan™ team is composed of several technical spacecraft experts. You will reinforce this team and work with all members of the current team. You will integrate the AOCS team which handle the control of the spacevan™. It requires a high-level knowledge of the architecture of a satellite, a true spirit of innovation and good skills for teamwork. It will be required as well to develop new GNC algorithms necessary for the next generation of spacevan™ able to do RPO and proximity operations

Your main tasks will be:

📌 Animate and participate to the design of GNC architecture of a spacedrop™ platform

📌 Prototyping new GNC for proximity operations algorithms that fit the platform requirement

📌 Work with system and embedded software teams for a good integration of the GNC system in the spacecraft

📌 Follow the development of the spacecraft from inception to the launch

📌 Interface with subcontractors who provide technical support or equipment on your technical topic

You will work directly with the GNC/AOCS Team Leader and the Project Manager of a spacedrop™ mission.

This position is open in our office in Massy (15km South of Paris) or our office in Toulouse (city center).


Preferred Experience 💁‍♀️

Exotrail is looking for a GNC Engineer with hands-on experience on all the phases of a space project with relevant experience on RDV and proximity operations project. Typically, the candidate worked on small satellites projects and oversaw the development, assembly and tests of the satellite from end-to-end. A minimum experience of 5 years is expected for this position, but younger engineer with relevant experience can apply.

Interest or previous experience with the following are appreciated but not mandatory:

• Automation loops for spacecraft and/or control theory
• Relative navigation and relative control
• AOCS and GNC architectures for RDV and proximity operations
• Hardware and software test of AOCS equipment and system
• Python or Matlab/Simulink proficiency
• Spacecraft system and/or space dynamics engineering
• Relative dynamics model
