This position offers the opportunity to work on an exciting space flight program within Human and Exploration Operations. In this senior-level role, the Systems Architect position is expected to be self-directed using previous experience to lead Spacecraft and/or Mission design and analysis efforts, Mission Operations and Ground Segment development, or Specialty Systems Engineering Analysis. Candidates must be able to recognize and mitigate instrument, spacecraft, ground segment, and mission technical issues while operating within budget and on schedule.
Candidates must also perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Candidates must ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints and perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
The candidate is expected to be able to coordinate multiple inter-disciplinary initiatives and provide direct reporting on status and performance to the Program Manager. The candidate is expected to be enable to evaluate the level of effort for various design efforts which also spread across multiple disciplines. The candidate should be familiar with Earned Value and general project management skills.
Responsibilities/Duties:
Lead/Provide major support to all or selected segments for a multi-disciplinary engineering team
Lead and critique space vehicle and/or ground segment design and analysis efforts in general
Conceive and develop solutions to complex analytical, design, and test problems that the program may experience
Space segment chief technical interface at all scheduled program meetings and reviews
Technical management of the payload, and major bus subcontracted program elements
Planning and conduct of all contractual space segment technical reviews
Responsible for consistency of the reliability and safety contamination and other product assurance plans with objectives
Responsible to write monthly status and technical performance reviews and reports
Perform technical DECA (Designated Export Compliance Administrator) duties (if required)
EVMS baseline generation, tracking/maintenance and variance analysis
Mentor, guide, direct and advise junior staff
Supervisory Responsibility:
Ability to lead a system engineering team to develop system requirements
Ability to evaluate and adjust system requirements in order to best meet program objectives
Ability to develop and manage system interfaces to integrate multi-element systems
Ability to translate program objectives and customer requirements into system requirements
Ability to allocate requirements among multiple elements of an integrated space system

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in STEM Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or related technical field and a minimum of 14 years of applicable experience, a Master's Degree and 12 years of applicable experience, or a PhD and 9 years of applicable experience
Extensive technical experience in systems engineering and integration of space systems.
Minimum 12 years of experience in aerospace systems design, development, manufacture, test or operations, including 2 years of technical or project leadership positions.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with system engineering requirement tools (Cradle, CORE or DOORS) and processes
Experience in requirements development and management processes
Experience in development and maintenance of interface control documents and related processes
Experience in space system testing and evaluation (flight and ground testing)
Experience with various technical analysis tools such as MATLAB and STK
Experience in any of the following areas is also desired: orbital mechanics, orbital debris modeling, spacecraft attitude control, power systems and modeling, avionics or digital electronics design, risk analysis, optics, communications, rocket propulsion, thermal engineering, or spacecraft integration and testing
Experience with Mission Operations for spacecraft
Knowledge of Launch Vehicles, System Safety, System Reliability, Contamination Control, EMI, Space Environments (Radiation, Surface Charging, etc.), and Human Factors is also desired.
Experience and/or training in Earned Value Management Systems
