Job Overview & Responsibilities

  • The Payload Accommodations IPT develops, designs, analyzes and tests structural / mechanical mission specific and standard flight and ground interface solutions required to integrate payloads onto Vulcan Centaur & Atlas V launch vehicles. The integrated product team develops primary and secondary structural and mechanical designs to accommodate payload requirements through processing and launch and provides support to payload ground test programs for both baseline vehicle and future missions.
  • This position requires proven structural / mechanical analysis capability and is expected to perform strength analysis for mechanical payload accommodations ground support equipment (GSE such as access stands, hoist fixtures, transportation support) as well as for flight and test payload accommodations hardware (including payload adapters, payload fairings, interstage adapter and heatshield).
  • An ability to work with mechanical ground and flight designers, CREs and cross-functional counterparts such as launch operations to determine optimal design and analysis solutions is required.
  • Must have the capability to participate in system level trade studies to optimize designs for manufacturing, producibility, operability and performance and influence program decisions. Interface requirement definition & verification effort is required.
  • The job assignment requires direct support and developed relationships with the launch sites, factories, suppliers, test facilities & payload customers in compliance with aggressive design, production & test schedules. When anomalies occur, the position participates in the resolution process and is expected to lead and mentor other analysts in providing prompt analysis solutions to assist in disposition.
  • Must have strong oral and presentation skills to effectively & regularly communicate analysis solutions and anomaly resolution status to technical management, program management and our customer counterparts.

Minimum of 4 years of related work experience

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or related technical field from and accredited college or university
  • Experience with structural / mechanical engineering analysis
  • Experience with welded joint analysis
  • Experience with a wide variety of metallic structural analysis methods
  • Hardware non-conformance analysis resolution experience
  • System level understanding of analysis principles and adjacent engineering disciplines
  • Excellent communication, writing and oral skills and the ability to work with a wide range of team members including mechanical designers, internal and external customers and subcontractors at a program level
  • Ability to assess and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and industry/government standards
  • Strong finite element modeling experience
  • Ability to operate independently and coach and mentor other employees
  • Time management skills and strong self-initiative
  • Ability to travel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters or higher degree in related technical field
  • Knowledge of the Aluminum Design Manual and AISC Steel Construction Manual
  • Structural/Mechanical strength experience on metallic or composite ground support equipment or payload/launch vehicle/attach fittings is preferred.
  • Requirements knowledge & experience with aerospace engineering structural testing is preferred.
  • Production & supplier strength analysis support experience
  • Launch and/or test operations strength analysis support experience
  • Strong Siemens Femap and Siemens NX Nastran skills
  • Siemens Teamcenter experience
  • Project integration skills

Summary Salary Range (for ULA - Denver only): $98,339.00 - $153,653.00

Please note that the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon a candidate's experience and qualifications, as well as internal equity, market and business considerations. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus in addition to base pay.
