Job Overview & Responsibilities

As a Power System Design Engineer on the Vulcan Development Airborne Avionics team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and integrating power system solutions for the Vulcan Centaur. Responsibilities may include:

  • Managing project/program objectives and translating visions into avionics system development roadmaps and conceptual operational plans.
  • Understanding the flow of requirements from program level down and the ability to develop the answering avionics system level requirements.
  • Translating project/program objectives, requirements, and conceptual operation plans into electrical power system designs and architectures.
  • Executing trade studies for new electrical power system concepts and architectures which could include various battery configurations, power management, and power regeneration.
  • Defining launch vehicle power component and system requirements.
  • Performing electrical system, loads, and capacity analyses.
  • Performing power system testing in the Airborne System Integration Lab as well as environment labs both within ULA and component suppliers.
  • Working with suppliers in support of batteries, power management components, and power regeneration development and testing.
  • Integrating the complete power system onto the launch vehicle, includes packaging, layout, electrical harness consideration, and flight environments consideration.

Required Education

Bachelor

Required Years of Experience

Minimum of 2 years of related work experience

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience with:
    • Electrical control and/or power systems
    • Systems engineering and/or system integration is preferred
  • Previous experience working with integrated hardware and software teams.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, coordination and presentation skills.
  • Available to work launch-related issues outside of business hours and available to travel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience presenting to customers and working with customers.
  • Solid understanding of problem definition and issue resolution process steps.

Summary Salary Range (for ULA - Denver only): $80,292.00 - $125,404.00

Please note that the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon a candidate's experience and qualifications, as well as internal equity, market and business considerations. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus in addition to base pay.
