York Space Systems is looking for a talented RF Engineering Principal/Staff with a high level of technical expertise to work closely with our technology partners and regulatory agencies for detailed reviews of link budgets, coverage capabilities, and target satellite capabilities.  The ideal candidate looks for opportunities to improve the space link efficiency through system design.  As an RF engineer at York, they will liaise between Product Development, Operations, Suppliers, and Engineering, providing high-level definition of requirements for new product development. 
 
This is a technical lead position and is not a management position.

 RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Architect RF system designs for the York communication systems with components to build out transmitters and receivers. 
  • Perform RF analysis to define vendor requirements for communication system hardware. 
  • Ensure compliance with challenging applicable regulations and program requirements to balance with technical requirements and best design practices. 
  • Determine project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards. 
  • Completing technical studies and prepare cost estimates. 
  • Confirm and verify product performance by designing tests. 
  • Maintain project schedule by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities, and resolving problems. 
  • Manage action as required to incorporate applicable changes to provide benefits in accordance with departmental objectives and management directive. 
  • Organize and prioritize tasks across different programs and projects. 
  • Work across a diverse team of internal and external stakeholders to achieve mission objectives. 
  • Communicate with the customer at regular tag-ups and in formal reviews.  
  • Support proposal work, estimate data throughputs, and support trades (cost/schedule/performance) at various level of proposal maturities. 
  • Collaborate with vendors, become familiar with potential vendor capabilities
  • Coordinate lab testing
  • Support FCC / NTIA / ITU coordination and become familiar with regulatory framework. 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, RF Engineering, or Wireless Communications related disciplines
  • 9-12+ years of industry experience in RF Systems design & analysis, preferably for spacecraft applications
  • Ability and willingness to share knowledge, skills, and experience in a coaching environment. 
  • Understand space-to-ground and space-to-space communications architectures, with a firm understanding of analog (antenna, amplifiers, filters, etc.) and digital (SDR, modulation, coding) domains. 
  • Familiarity with commonly used satellite modulation and coding standards, (CCSDS, DVBS2, etc.) and potential future standards (IoT, 5G NTN). 
  • Systems engineering experience within the space industry. 
  • Knowledgeable background in spacecraft electronics. 
  • Ability to perform under deadline: accountable and self-driven. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Organized and a decent multitasker across multiple projects.  
  • Detail-orientated and data- driven. 
  • Motivated, goal orientated, and persistent. 
  • May require some travel to support testing and launch.
