Vast is looking for an NDT RT/CR Level III, RSO Quality Specialist, reporting to the Manager of Quality, to support the development of Radiographic systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations. This role will be responsible for ensuring overall radiological safety at Vast. The Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) will ensure full compliance with the applicable State License of California, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), and U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
Additionally this role will also be responsible for establishing and maintaining Radiographic Testing (RT) techniques that ensure the safety of personnel and quality of our product . A Level III Quality Specialist shall be thoroughly familiar with the scope and limitations of the RT techniques and methods to which they are certified and must be capable of directing the work of NDT trainees and NDT Level I & II personnel. The Level III Technician will have an advanced knowledge of product manufacturing and inspection technology.
This will be a full-time, exempt position located in our Long Beach location, but will need to periodically support NDE operations at our Hawthorne & Mojave facilities.
Responsibilities:
- Perform contract reviews ensuring customer requirements are met on each project
- Review and approve work orders and make changes accordingly to ensure all safety and operational instructions are communicated to operators
- Effectively communicate technical information for RT capabilities, technologies, methods, personnel and facility safety requirements to all levels of the organization
- Create profiles for new part numbers and update old profiles
- Creating and approving all RT techniques, ensuring they meet client and project requirements
- Department procedure creation, maintenance and review
- Assist Quality Manager with internal & external audits
- Ensure equipment is calibrated / certified per required procedures and client requirements
- Contact customers with technical questions regarding information missing on purchase orders
- Conduct performance reviews for all certified technicians
- Certify & re-certify inspectors
- Review certifications for corrections and revisions
- Provides excellent customer service
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- NDT level III certification with ASNT TC-1A in Radiographic Testing (RT)
- ASNT Industrial Radiography Radiation Safety Personnel (IRRSP) Card holder
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- 8+ years of experience as a level II NDE/NDT inspector
- NDT level II certification inline with ASNT TC-1A/NAS-410 guidance in radiography testing (RT)
- Radiation safety training/certification with IRRSP X-ray card
- 8+ years of experience performing Computed Radiography
- Computed or direct digital certification
- Operational experience of utilizing digital radiography systems
- Knowledge of Carestream and Comet tube
- Experience operating computed panels, scanners and direct digital panels
- Experience inspecting advanced materials such as high strength aluminum alloys, precipitation
- hardened steels, inconel, titanium and maraging steel (super alloys)
- Experience with Radiation Safety programs and implementing them in a production setting
- Knowledge and understanding of NASA 5009, NAS 410 and SNT TC-1-A standards
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time
- Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends to support critical mission milestones
- Ability to lift up to 25lbs unassisted
Pay Range:
- NDT RT/CR Level III, Radiation Safety Officer (RSO): $125,000.00 - $160,000.00
