We’re on the hunt for a Software Integration Engineer – Satellite Ground Systems for In-Service Support (ISS) on a complex Satellite Ground system on our Geointelligence team.

Our mission is to turn data into insight. From detecting changes in fragile ecosystems to monitoring northern ice floes and shipping routes, our near-real time data of Earth observation and the environment makes our Geointelligence team a leader in geospatial imagery, ground stations, enterprise geospatial systems and defence programs.

As a member of the Engineering team you will work on our programs such as Chorus Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Satellite, Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC), Square Kilometer Array (SKA) radio telescope, Aeronautical Navigation products, and Marine Insights products. You will work as part of a technical team to develop new capabilities, enhance existing capabilities and deliver solutions to our customers.

As a Software Integration Engineer – Satellite Ground Systems, you will contribute to the support, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of a complex Satellite Ground System and data processing facility deployed on-premise.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure high up time of a complex satellite ground system and processing facility to meet stringent customer availability requirements
  • Own assigned system and software components, become the Subject Matter Expert in their operations and troubleshooting
  • Interact with the operations team, vendor support personnel, MDA software development teams, MDA Cyber Security team and the rest of the MDA In-Service Support team, to identify root causes and recommend solutions
  • Expertly and quickly isolate issues to specific Software, Network or Security components
  • Rapidly develop workarounds to restore satellite ground system operations
  • Work along with SW Development, Cyber Security and System Admin teams to develop long-term solutions to observed issues and system enhancements
  • Performing testing and verification in the staging environment
  • Reporting issue status and recording actions/resolution
  • Providing remote and on-site system support to the operations team
  • Providing after hours on-call support (Rotating schedule with other ISS support staff)
  • Performing from time to time, preventive, corrective, and adaptive hardware and software maintenance activities on-site:
    • Retrieving and analyzing system logs
    • Performing Line-Replaceable Unit (LRU) replacement
    • Implementing problem correction or workaround
    • Deploying software and operating system releases and patches

Requirements:

Candidates must have the following knowledge, experience and skills:

  • A University Degree or Technical Diploma from an accredited institution in computer science, software engineering, or a combination of related education and experience.
  • Experience in system integration of multiple subsystems
  • Experience in software development and scripting
  • Experience working in Microsoft Windows and Linux environment
  • Excellent troubleshooting, fault isolation, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Proven ability to be a team player and yet work unsupervised on a project
  • Ability to quickly learn on the job and leverage your past experiences and knowledge.
  • Ability to travel to the Aldergrove station to perform onsite activities as required
  • Ability to work after hours when critical technical issues arise

Proficient knowledge and experience in the following areas will be an asset:

  • Java, Python
  • VM, Docker, Kubernetes
  • Logging via Kibana
  • Computer network
  • Security system development
  • Operating system administration
  • Remote sensing or Geographic Information System(GIS)
  • Satellite Ground Stations or Satellite Communication Systems
  • Experience troubleshooting systems with RF communication links
  • Electrical/mechanical knowledge/experience

The compensation range for this position is $80,000 - $117,700 annually. The specific compensation offered will be based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

Comments/Special Considerations:

Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the Nato Secret level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP).
