The Position

At MDA we are leading research and development of new technologies and solving problems which have never been solved before.  In this role you will play a key link in the process by helping to develop space hardware that will be able to withstand the rigors of space flight and be able to endure the duration of the mission(s).  You will be given opportunities to lead the development of new inspection strategies and processes, influence and guide design teams, and overall be part of a dynamic team of engineers pushing the boundaries of what is possible.

We’re on the hunt for a Senior Fatigue and Damage Tolerance Structural Engineer – on our Robotics and Space Operation team at our Brampton office.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary engineering team to develop state-of-the-art robotics.
  • Be part of a design team to evaluate, numerically, analytically and/or experimentally, stiffness, strength and durability of the structure of our robotic, nuclear and medical products.
  • Size components, identify problem areas, propose design modification or improvement and subsequently approve the mechanical design.
  • Support manufacturing, and validate and prove the mechanical design by conducting mechanical tests on the product hardware according to the mechanical loading environment.
  • Generate analysis reports and create mechanical test plans and reports.
  • Investigate problems/failures during development and test

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years direct experience in performing fatigue and damage tolerance analysis of primary structures, preferably in the aerospace industry using NASGRO
  • Experience in development of load spectrum for use in damage tolerance analysis
  • Able to determine and recommend nondestructive testing methods for metallic structures
  • Experience in impact of different mechanical loading conditions (QS, Dynamic and thermal stress) on mechanical design is an asset
  • Experience testing and validating damage tolerance predictions is an asset
  • Familiarity with NASTRAN/NX CAD & CAE tools
  • Ability to work within a team of structural engineers
  • Multi-tasking and task-prioritizing capability
  • Knowledge and understanding of mechanical design
  • Ability of working under tight schedule and pressure
  • Understanding spacecraft requirement is an asset

 

Comments/Special Considerations:

Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the reliability status level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and ITAR.
