Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a Senior Manager (level M) as Propulsion Multi-Discipline Team Manager reporting to the SLS Program Manager in Huntsville, AL, New Orleans, LA or Cocoa Beach, FL.

NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) is key to returning the United States to the Moon and sending the first astronauts on to Mars. With the addition of the Exploration Upper Stage (EUS) as part of the Block 1B configuration, the SLS will be the world's most powerful rocket built to carry astronauts and cargo farther and faster than any rocket in history.

The SLS Propulsion Multi-Discipline Team (MDT) Lead is an SLS Program position responsible for overall execution of Propulsion system development, qualification, and production activities for the SLS Core Stage and Exploration Upper Stage.  The position reports to the SLS Program Deputy Program Manager.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of multi-disciplinary engineers, CAMs, and technical SMEs

  • Manage labor and sub-contractor material budgets; partner with Supplier Management organization to execute supplier sub-contracts for complex propulsion components

  • Develop and maintain rigorous program baselines (technical, cost, schedule) aligned to supplier contracts

  • Utilize EVM to gauge program performance, review and approve variances, ensure accurate EAC

  • Characterize and manage risks, issues, and opportunities with executable and relevant mitigation plans, and accurate financial impacts

  • Establish IPT organizational structure and operating rhythm to maximize resource utilization

  • Implement program processes, and seek out process improvements to eliminate waste and drive execution

  • Define metrics to gauge IPT performance, identify program risk, and prioritize resource allocation

  • Report status to program and executive leadership, both internal and with customer

  • Major sub-contractor component development and contract management

  • Support proposal development (tech volume, BOEs, schedule, resources, GR&A), and negotiations

  • Support subcontractor SOW development, RFPs, proposal evaluation, and contract negotiations

  • Define staffing plans; participate in hiring, performance management, and career development

  • Maintain a high performing workforce by providing a positive culture of collaboration, diversity and inclusiveness

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

The position requires ability to obtain program access, for which the U. S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship only.

This position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher 

  • 5+ years of experience in a leadership role (i.e., manager, project manager, team lead, etc.)

  • 10+ years of experience in propulsion component and/or system development

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience with Program Management Best Practices (PMBP)

  • Experience with Earned Value Management System (EVMS)

  • Experience leading, managing, or implementing Lean+/10x initiatives

  • Project Management experience
