This role is part of the Lunar Transportation business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.   

 

As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers you will be the Cryogenic Test Lead for our Lunar Transportation Assembly, Integration, and Test team. As part of your role, you will mentor & train other team members. You will provide technical leadership to the team, supporting members of your team, advising on technical approaches, and bringing your experience to bear on our most challenging technical problems in cryogenic fluid systems. 

 

In particular, you will architect cryogenic system leak, flow and pressure tests for use on lunar family of vehicles to certify design for flight. This role will include the complete life cycle of the system from definition, interfaces, conceptual design, detailed design, component development, assembly, verification, and operation. You will plan out your components’ schedules, manage risks, and develop mitigation plans for your hardware. You will work with both internal and external suppliers to design, build, test, and analyze components that will take us to the moon! 

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Architect and develop cryogenic test (leak, flow, pressure) system procedures
  • Provide technical leadership to the team, advising on test approaches, and bringing your experience to bear on our most challenging technical problems in cryogenic systems. 
  • Mentor & train other team members. 
  • Develop and lead complete life cycle of the test system from definition, interfaces, conceptual design, detailed design, component verification, test system assembly, system verification, and operation. 
  • Plan out components’ schedules, manage risks, and develop mitigation plans for your test risks. 
  • Work with both internal and external suppliers to design, build, test, and analyze fluid systems that will take us to the moon! 

 

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Physics, Systems Engineering or related technical subject area
  • 8+ years of experience in fluids and mechanical systems/components
  • Experience developing, integrating and certifying cryogenic aerospace systems for ground operations and flight
  • Expertise in LH2, LOX, GH2, and GOX applications of one of the following components: heat exchangers, pumps, turbomachinery, or combustors
  • Experience providing technical leadership and mentoring to small teams of early to mid-career engineers
  • Excellent fundamental understanding cryogenic and propulsion fluid behavior
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a fast paced, dynamic work environment
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills with ability to directly interface with external parties including government and commercial entities
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
  • Willingness to work on-site at Florida's Space Coast with occasional travel to support testing as necessary

 

Desired:

  • M.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Physics, Systems Engineering or related technical subject area
  • Systems Engineering experience, specifically requirements and interface definition, management and verification
  • Experience with spacecraft propulsion and cryogenic environments
  • Experience with the entire life cycle of a cryogenic fluid system

  • Relocation available
  • Travel expected up to 25%-50% of the time with some long duration during major assembly tests at Test Facilities
  • Shifts available: 1st with additional support as needed
