Description

ESOC Outreach Communication Officer in the Outreach Coordination Office Production and Management Support Division, Communication Department, Director General’s Services.

You are responsible for local coordination of ESOC outreach activities in line with ESA's Corporate Communication policy. You will organise and coordinate ESOC outreach activities by implementing the site public relations in line with the policy and harmonization developed for all ESA Establishments and Member States.

Duties

Your tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • ensuring activity planning, local team management and reporting for the ESOC outreach activities;
  • carrying out in collaboration with the relevant national bodies, and in strong coordination with the ESA Outreach Coordination Officer, outreach communication activities for the following Member States (Germany, Switzerland, Poland, and Czech Republic);
  • establishing contacts with local authorities, organisations and institutions aimed at promoting ESA through their relevant networks, and in particular with the Member States Advisory Communication Committee representatives;
  • coordinating and ensuring, in close cooperation with the ESOC Head of Establishment’s strategy office, identified public outreach activities including organisation of local communication events, visits (general public) and local and national exhibitions and events (such as open days) at the ESOC establishment;
  • coordinating content for publication for the following ESA Member States’ national web pages (Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Czech Republic) and their related social media accounts;
  • collaborating with the ESA Exhibition Coordination Officer for corporate international exhibitions and events and keeping close relations with the public places (science centres, museums etc.) in the Member States (Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Czech Republic);
  • liaising with the Head of Newsroom and Media Relations Office, for any useful inputs related to outreach communication activities that could serve as feed towards media activities for the following Member States (Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Czech Republic);
  • liaising with the EAC and Astronaut Communication Officer to support astronaut activities related to outreach events in the following Member States (Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Czech Republic);
  • liaising with the Internal Communication Office to coordinate internal communication activities related to ESOC through the ESOC intranet.

Education

A master's in international relations or communication-related disciplines is required for this post.

Additional requirements

Proven communication skills, writing skills, keen relationship management ability, demonstrated planning and organisation skills, problem-solving ability, result-oriented, with demonstrated competence in some of the following disciplines: events organisation, public relations, logistics management, marketing campaigns, and social media campaigns.

Excellent German language skills.

Excellent knowledge of ESA, its programmes and the Communication Department’s mandate and role.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.

According to the ESA Convention, the recruitment of staff must take into account an adequate distribution of posts among nationals of the ESA Member States*. In accordance with the European Space Agency’s security procedures and as part of the selection process, successful candidates will be required to undergo basic screening before appointment conducted by an external background screening service. 

 

In principle, recruitment will be within the advertised grade band (A2-A4). However, if the selected candidate has less than four years of relevant professional experience following the completion of the master’s degree, the position may be filled at A1 level.
