The Quality Assurance Manager (QA Manager #9184) provides independent oversight and support to the James Webb and Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope missions, and ensures that all practices outlined in the Quality Assurance Plans for both missions are executed. 

You must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident to meet ITAR requirements.

This position can support hybrid work. Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to our local market. (MD, DE, VA, PA, DC & WV).

Duties and Responsibilities:

As the QA Manager, you will utilize a quality activities schedule, checklists and templates to manage all QA tasks.  The QA Manager leads process, procedures and product audits; participates in design, code and test reviews; witness testing; provides audit assessments through the generation of audit reports including non conformance reporting and tracking.  You will recommend and support the implementation of corrective actions; review software technical documentation, and supports the overall safety and security for all Science and Operations Center systems. 

  • Executes Quality Assurance activities according to Quality Assurance Plans and in collaboration with the Mission Project Managers.
  • Conducts audits, assessments and evaluations through independent analysis to verify compliance to established standards. 
  • Documents and tracks findings and observations to close; escalating unresolved issues to the appropriate management levels.
  • Creates audit plans and reports; and revises QA plans as appropriate.
  • Reviews software documentation as assigned by mission office(s) and team leads.
  • Interfaces with development, integration and test, and operations teams at the Space Telescope Science Institute; NASA; international partners; and observatory contractors to support the effective operation of a mission wide quality assurance process.

Qualifications and Job Requirements:

  • Planning, preparing, conducting, reporting and following up on audits or assessments.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance best practices, methods and tools as it relates to system and/or software development.
  • Analytic, problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Communicates effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Bachelors degree in related field
  • Knowledge of NASA’s safety and mission assurance practices is highly desirable
