DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Collaborate with and mentor on-staff Institutional Safety Specialists, Engineers, Technicians, and other Axiom employees on S&MA Institutional Safety processes, regulatory compliance, and best practices
• Assist with managing all business occupational safety efforts (health, safety, and environmental) to promote a safe office, lab and shop working environment while ensuring compliance with OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, EPA, TCEQ, ASHRAE, and other health, safety, and environmental standards and regulatory requirements
• Assist with review, update and implementation and management of Axiom Space Corporate Safety and Health Plan in addition to all other program supporting documents e.g.: Electrical Safety, Pressure Systems Safety, Crane and Rigging, Job Hazard Analysis, HAZCOM, Respiratory Protection, Lock Out Tag Out, Chemical Management, Shop Safety, Lab Safety, Ladder Safety, Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry, etc.
• Lead or assist with Mishap and Close Call investigations for root cause determination
• Conduct routine facility safety inspection and self-verification audits
• Assist with managing the Master Chemical Inventory List and associated Safety Data Sheet database as well as managing the Hazardous Waste Storage and Disposal Program
• Provide support in the development of Quality Program systems and processes, record-keeping systems, PRACA, and process reliability standards development
• Assist in the development of safety data management systems for accurate institutional safety record keeping associated with leading-lagging indicators, hazard reporting, action tracking, auditing, etc.
• Provide Test Safety Officer support to program engineering departments in support of test article Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review, Test Readiness Review, and test operations
• Conduct Facility Hazard Assessments, Job Hazard Analysis, Standing Hazard Assessments, and other risk assessment activities to determine potential employee exposure and mitigative requirements related to hierarchy of control needs
• Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Experience
• BS in safety management or related degree
• 15+ years of experience or 20 years of non-degreed applicable/related aerospace safety experience.
• Background in Safety and Mission Assurance of human-rated spaceflight systems
• Experience with occupational safety program management and meeting OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, EPA, TCEQ, DOT, ASHRAE and other regulatory agency requirements.
• Experience with performing FMEA, Risk Analysis, and Spacecraft Hazard Analysis in support of space flight program operations
• Experienced in providing safety requirement input on Ground Support Equipment (GSE) design and operation
• Background in Ground Safety Data Package development in support of GSE and Flight Hardware handling, test, and flight operations
• Background in safety oversight and management of unmanned hardware/equipment inclusive of pressure systems, vibration equipment, vacuum chambers, thermal chambers, electromagnetic interference/electromagnetic equipment, RF Welding, laser cutting, arc jet, CNC mill, CNC router, vertical mill, bed lathe, man-in-the-loop pressure testing, etc.
• Background in safety oversight and training of crane and rigging operations and operators inclusive of standard and critical lift operations
• Background in safety oversight of powered industrial equipment operations inclusive of forklift, boom lift, scissor lift, powered pallet jack, etc.
• Background in safety oversight of business motor vehicle operations and Department of Transportation over the road shipping requirements related to proper equipment and material securement and hazardous materials shipment
• Skilled in development and implementation of LOTO, Hot Work, Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, and other Institutional Safety program elements
• Skilled in Hazard Analysis assessment performance associated with man-in-the-loop testing within vacuum changers, pressure suits, aircraft ZeroG flight, Neutral Buoyancy Lab operations, etc.
• Background in Respiratory Program management inclusive of respirator medical check, fit check, and respirator type and filter selection based on employee exposure potential

Essential Functions
• Work Environment: Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work in a lab, shop, on an aircraft, or in a field environment depending on the task being performed.

Requirements
• Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
• Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.
• Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.

Physical Requirements (For Technicians or others, this may require edits)
• Periods of work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (50% of the time).
• Work may require routine lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. May require occasional lifting or carrying up to 40lbs.
• Work may include extended walking periods, climbing, bending, stooping, crawling in tight spaces, walking on uneven surfaces, and working at height.
• Work may include Safety position flying duties for extended periods during ZeroG parabola flight operations
• May require certification and operation of equipment and machines to include crane, forklift, scissor lift, boom lift, powered pallet jack, or company owned or leased vehicle.
• Work requires the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; must be able to exchange accurate information in pressure situations; must be able to respond quickly to sounds; must be able to see and respond to dangerous situations
• Work may involve exposure to hazardous materials or extreme environments that include heat/cold or loud noises; must be able to see, hear, and detect odors for response to dangerous situations quickly and safely
• Work will involve operation of standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).
