Kepler is on an audacious mission: to bring the internet to space. Founded in 2015, our ambition is to provide internet connectivity in space, whether in LEO, MEO, GEO, or beyond. With an expanding base of early customers and our first 21 satellites in orbit, Kepler is continuing to grow and expand its most important asset – the Team!

We’re on the hunt for a top-tier Software Developer who will have the opportunity to work on a variety of tasks including, but not limited to, operating Kepler satellites, developing Kepler’s Constellation Management Software, resolving technical issues, implementing solutions to improve service quality, and supporting Kepler’s hardware and software test infrastructure and automation.

Responsibilities (Operations):

  • Participate in rotating weekly on-call operations to monitor satellite health by responding to alerts and dealing with anomalies.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and improvement of on-call processes.
  • Support LEOP (Launch and Early Orbit Phase) and Commissioning preparation for future Kepler satellites.
  • Execute and participate in the LEOP and Commissioning of future Kepler satellites.
  • Improve on tools used for operations, with a particular focus on automation and scalability.

Responsibilities (Development):

  • Support creation of concept of operations and requirements definitions for Kepler service offerings.
  • Design and develop reliable, high-quality software related to: 1) Mission control software and automation; 2) Hardware and software test infrastructure and automation.
  • Write thorough test and documentation.
  • Participate in the definition, design, testing, and deployment of ground segment software, with a particular focus on automation and scalability.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of Python experience.
  • Basic knowledge of spacecraft command and control systems.
  • Experience working with relational databases.
  • Comfortable working in a Linux environment.
  • Ability to effectively use git.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Demonstrated strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and organization skills.

Bonus Points:

  • Familiarity with Python development tools such as pytest/unittest, setuptools, SWIG, and C-extensions.
  • Experience with build and deployment tools like Make, Docker, and Ansible.
  • Knowledge of computer networking and modern networking protocols, especially delay-tolerant networking.
  • Knowledge of spacecraft attitude/orbit determination and control systems.
  • Knowledge of RF communications.
  • C/C++ development experience.
