Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Test Engineer to join its team of qualified and diverse individuals supporting its Strategic Space Systems Division based in Azusa, CA. This role is expected to be full-time, onsite.
Job Summary:
The Test Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and executing environmental and functional tests for a variety of aerospace and spaceflight components. This role ensures all test activities are conducted in accordance with program requirements, industry standards, and safety protocols. The Test Engineer will coordinate test resources, maintain test systems, and support continuous improvements in test equipment and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
• Plan, execute, and oversee environmental tests, including thermal cycling, thermal vacuum, and vibration testing on aerospace hardware.
• Author and maintain test procedures, technical reports, and supporting documentation in alignment with acceptance, qualification, and functional testing standards.
• Conduct test readiness reviews (TRRs), Control Test Plans (CTPs), and Control Test Briefings (CTBs).
• Coordinate with program management and test teams to schedule and execute test campaigns.
• Design, support, and improve moderate to complex test systems, fixtures, and hardware/software interfaces.
• Maintain and troubleshoot test equipment, including electromechanical systems and thermal chambers.
• Supervise and provide technical direction to test technicians during test execution.
• Create mechanical and electrical drawings and documentation using tools such as Creo and Visio.
• Ensure test area organization, readiness, and equipment reliability through preventive maintenance schedules.
• Identify and resolve test-related anomalies involving electrical, mechanical, and software systems.
• Contribute to a culture of lean/agile practices and continuous improvement in lab and testing environments.
• Support data acquisition using instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, accelerometers, signal conditioners, and high-speed DAQs.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field with 2+ years of relevant test engineering experience, or a Master’s degree in a STEM field.
• U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
• Hands-on experience in an engineering test lab environment, especially involving space industry standards and procedures.
• Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting thermal cycle/vacuum chambers, electromechanical systems, and vibration test equipment.
• Demonstrated understanding of electronic systems and strong analytical troubleshooting skills.
• Experience designing fixtures, interpreting mechanical drawings, and creating documentation.
• Ability to work 6:00 am -3:3:00 pm00pm in addition to extended hours and off-shifts during the test execution period.
• Effective collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to lead technicians and interface with engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Current and active DoD Secret clearance.
• Basic knowledge of fluid mechanics and heat transfer.
• Experience with cryogenic fluids, gaseous pressure systems, and cleanroom environments.
• Familiarity with MATLAB, LabVIEW, and data analysis tools.
• Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Experience with Unholtz-Dickie and ETS shakers, Vibration Research and M+P controllers, and other related test instrumentation.
• Experience working with high-power AC/DC control systems.
