Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman Space Systems is searching for an experienced Electrical Engineer to join the Systems Safety Engineering team within Launch Vehicles business unit to support the Autonomous Flight Termination Systems (AFTS) Product Lead in Chandler, AZ.
Only local candidates will be considered. No relocation provisions are available. This position is 100% on-site in our Chandler, AZ facility.
System Safety Engineering utilizes System engineering processes and tools to drive the overall system design to meet Safety requirements to minimize the risk inherent in launch vehicle operations while maximizing mission reliability and success. At Northrop Grumman Launch Vehicles, System Safety Engineering is involved in all phases of a program life cycle, from proposal generation to launch operations. System Safety Engineering interfaces with various Ranges to ensure that our launch vehicles meet safety requirements while providing high reliability to the customer.
The AFTS Product Lead is responsible for working with a System Safety Engineering team to develop key Range Safety deliverables and support system safety activities throughout the AFTS product life cycle. The System Safety Engineering effort includes interacting as part of a multi-disciplined engineering team to integrate the AFTS system architecture and constituent elements for new and existing launch vehicle programs, as well as new business concepts and proposals.
Responsibilities:
Support the AFTS Product Lead with all issues pertaining to the AFTS product.
- Analyze potential impacts to sub-components, software, and documentation for proposed changes.
- Discuss path forward with various appointed AFTS Subject Matter Experts (Software, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Packaging, System Safety, Software Safety, Guidance-Navigation-Control).
- Ensure that affected AFTS product documentation (Specification, Drawing Tree, User’s Guide, Range Tailoring Documents) is appropriately updated if changes are agreed upon (interface with component Responsible Engineers).
- Communicate, negotiate, and gain range approval of necessary changes (i.e. changes affecting range requirements tailoring).
- Communicate changes to affected programs.
- Support design and Range meetings as necessary.
- Support requirement and testing implementation at both the sub- and system-level as necessary.
This position maybe offered at the Engineer Systems Level 2 or Principal Engineer Systems Level 3
Basic Qualifications:
If offered at the Engineer Systems (Level 2) requires:
- 2 Years with a bachelor’s in science in Electrical Engineering; a master’s degree plus 0 years of experience.
- U.S. Citizen and ability to obtain clearance.
- Experience with systems engineering processes.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills required to communicate with all levels from internal employees to customers.
- Ability to travel 10% is required.
- This position requires 100% in-office work.
If offered at the Principal Engineer Systems (Level 3) requires:
- 5 Years with a bachelor’s in science in Electrical Engineering; 3 Years with a master’s degree; 1 Year with PhD.
- U.S. Citizen and ability to obtain clearance.
- Experience with systems engineering processes.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills required to communicate with all levels from internal employees to customers.
- Ability to travel 10% is required.
- This position requires 100% in-office work.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with launch vehicle system design, integration, testing, or Mission Operations.
- Experience with Solid Rocket Boost Stages and Liquid Fueled rockets.
- Experience with tailoring Range Commanders Council (RCC)-319, RCC-324, AFSPCMAN-91-710 and/or MIL-STD-882.
- Experience in launch vehicle Flight Termination and Range Tracking System design, integration, testing, and evaluation.
- Exposure to the systems engineering discipline and its application for system safety.
- Experience in presenting in front of customers (MDA, NASA, DoD).
- Experience in development and maintenance of requirements documents and related processes.
- Experience using Requirements Management Tools such as DOORS.
- Experience using Design Modeling Tools such as Cameo.
- Active Security Clearance is preferred.
Salary Range: $77,200.00 - $115,800.00Salary Range 2: $95,300.00 - $142,900.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
