We are looking for you to join our team as a Digital Engineering Manager based out of San Diego, CA.
What You'll Get to Do:
The digital engineering manager will lead a sub-department of approximately 50 digital/VHDL engineers and managers working within the San Diego Engineering and Sciences (E&S) Software and Digital Technologies (SWDT) department. The successful candidate will lead direct report employees based on organizational goals, program activity, and company policies. Specific responsibilities include coordinating with programs for staffing, recruiting, training, preparing and delivering performance reviews to employees, evaluating/recommending employees for promotions, evaluating salaries and coordinating with Human Resources on potential adjustments, assisting employees in preparing performance goals, providing career guidance to employees and counseling employees on their performance as necessary as well as working to refine the system development process and tools utilized for program excellence and design assurance. Program Execution and Engineering Excellence are our driving forces.
The qualified candidate shall also be a technical performer, working approximately 80% directly on programs involving communications systems within our F-35, F-22, CNI Production, Advanced Communications, or Small Forms Factors operating units (OU), representing our Engineering and Sciences organization. Experience with growing discipline organizations of Digital VHDL Design and Verification engineers is highly desired for this role.
This Manager of Managers will support and be accountable for goals including:
- Cultivate an inclusive and engaging workplace. Ensure employees’ work life balance is appropriate.
- Workforce: maintain staff adequate to execute to program plans, as well as for strategic growth. Plan assignments and fill program needs to ensure success, but which also offer growth to the individuals performing the work.
- Performance management: on an ongoing basis engage with staff to identify growth opportunities, deficiencies, appropriate training, etc. Execute to the Enterprise review cycle. Manage compensation and career progression.
- Create, update, and maintain digital engineering processes.
- Take ownership of the growth and development of the VHDL specific skillset within our organization including, but not limited to, creating training plans and processes, staffing new talent, and facilitating visibility and career progression for our talented staff.
Basic Qualifications:
- BSEE or a related STEM field, 10+ years of experience, and significant direct experience in the field of digital and VHDL engineering.
- Candidate must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain a Secret clearance
- Candidate must have excellent written and communication skills and be able to work independently and within groups
- Ability to facilitate/mediate in conflict resolution matters
- Previous experience as a functional manager or technical team leader
- Candidate must have knowledge of the engineering process, be proficient in process development as well as functional organization aspects
- Candidate must have working knowledge of the engineering development process, VHDL design and verification
- Candidate must have familiarity with the other engineering disciplines
Preferred Qualifications:
- MS in Electrical Engineering, or a related STEM field, with 15+ or more years of technical experience and direct management of engineers
- Previous experience managing managers.
- Experience with VHDL design or advanced verification for FPGAs
- Experience with AMD/Xilinx series including Zynq, Kintex, and Ultrascale family of devices.
- Experience with Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools: Vivado, Quartus, QuestaSim
- Knowledgeable in FPGA physical constraints and achieving timing closure.
- Generation of Test benches and support of formal VHDL Verification.
- Experience with board RO system level debug using test equipment such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
- Experience with translating systems requirements into programmable logic requirements, design documents, and test specifications.
- Candidate should have hands on experience with DoD communications systems
- Candidate should have direct supervisory experience and/or significant team leadership (IPT lead)
- Current direct program duties within the F-35, AC, or SF3C Operating Units.
- Familiarity with EVMS Reporting and CAM responsibilities
- Familiarity with other organizational functions such as supply chain, procurement, logistics, and mission assurance
- DOD Secret and SAR highly preferred
- Knowledge of F-35 and F-22 communications systems and associated waveforms
