Northrop Grumman, Payload and Ground Systems Division (PGSD) is currently seeking a Sr. Director of Manufacturing and Operations to provide strategic leadership across the division in the areas of Manufacturing, Environmental Health and Safety, Mission Assurance, Quality, and Facility Management. This position can be based out of Baltimore, MD; Redondo Beach, CA; or San Diego, CA (ability to travel 25% or more as needed).

The Sr. Director of Manufacturing and Operations reports directly to the Sector Vice President of Space Manufacturing and Operations with a strong dotted line to the division’s Vice President & General Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and sustain a framework across manufacturing operations that focuses on increased speed, improved efficiencies,  and standardization of processes and tools though collaboration with enterprise peers and Executive leadership.

  • Oversee manufacturing operations across the division and serve as the primary interface between Payload and Ground Systems Division and Mission Systems manufacturing.

  • Establish annual Non-Financial Metric goals focused on Safety, Quality, and On-time Delivery. Analyze performance metrics and lead initiatives to ensure alignment with targets and continuous improvement plans.

  • Provide strategic leadership and guidance to business units, ensuring adherence to Safety and Quality standards, best manufacturing processes, and fostering a culture of excellence.

  • Lead the PGSD Program Corrective Action Board (PCAB) in reviewing quality and mission assurance escapes and implementing corrective action plans.

  • Direct Environmental, Health & Safety efforts: serve as the main contact for EH&S activities across PGSD, providing leadership and guidance for individual sites to enhance safety culture.

  • Assess and optimize capacity in both office and manufacturing spaces to meet current and future business needs.

  • Identify and lead continuous improvement initiatives using lean methodologies, aiming for operational efficiency and reduced waste.

  • Act as an integral member of the division leadership team, providing candid feedback and driving alignment with PGSD and NGC goals and values.

Basic Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Operations, or similar and a minimum of twelve (12) years related experience.

  • Operations experience in a manufacturing environment including a minimum of eight (8) years of management experience

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a large and diverse groups, establish clear expectations and inspire commitment, build teams, value diversity and put people first.

  • Must have an active Top-Secret clearance at time of application with the ability to obtain and maintain SCI.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active/Current U.S. Government DoD Top Secret clearance and SCI.

  • Previous responsibility leading the day-to-day activities in large-scale production, space vehicle or space payload operating areas

  • An advanced degree (Master of Science or Ph.D.) in engineering or business management

  • Demonstrated ability to improve organizational health through organizational alignment, executing effectively, genuinely and meaningfully connecting with employees and managing employees.

  • Ability to further continuous controlled improvements in organizations and processes and strengthening of workforce skills through application of lean thinking principles and tools.

  • Ability to formulate and execute complex project plans and initiatives.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication, writing, presentation and critical thinking skills. Clear, demonstrated commitment to open communication and customer satisfaction.

  • Demonstrated business acumen.

  • Demonstrated dedication to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers to establish and maintain effective relationships with customers and gain their trust and respect.

  • Understands the culture of large organizations and knows how to get things done through formal and informal channels

  • Communicates an inspired vision that motivates entire units and the organization.

Salary Range: $203,900.00 - $320,500.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
