About The Position 

Seeking a Laser Rangefinder (LRF) Lead with Product Design Lead (PDL) experience to manage the LRF staff, schedule, budget, contracts, risks, and interfaces throughout the life cycle from requirements management through integration, testing, and on-orbit operations. The LRF Lead also requires Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in laser system design, test, and analysis, as well as problem resolution. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Manage project schedules, budgets, contracts, and reviews
  • Develop laser system requirements, design, interfaces, testing & calibration plans
  • Work with spaceflight laser vendors in the development & testing of hardware
  • Performing laser system-level performance analysis 
  • Developing laser system risks, issues, and troubleshooting plans
  • Brief project and stakeholder management regarding programmatic and technical status

 

General Requirements: 

  • Education: BS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Aerospace, or Optical Engineering
  • Experience: 15+ years design & testing of space-qualified laser altimetry technologies and instruments including:
    • Laser system evaluation, calibration, and subsystem integration
    • Hands on experience with laser system integration & testing
    • End-to-end testing: TVAC, vibe, EMI/EMC, HIL simulation
    • Signal processing & LRF modeling (accuracy, divergence, false alarms, noise sources)
    • Optical alignment & bore sighting
    • Data interface definition and latency analysis
  • Cross-team collaboration (spacecraft subsystems and I&T)
  • Technical documentation preparation and review participation
