Job description

Orbital Sidekick (OSK) is revolutionizing how the world understands and interacts with our planet. We are the leading hyperspectral satellite data and analytics company building the most advanced space-based infrastructure and proprietary "Spectral Intelligence™" platform. Our constellation of Global Hyperspectral Observation Satellites (GHOSt™) delivers unparalleled, persistent monitoring capabilities, capturing an unparalleled 500 bands of light to reveal the chemical fingerprints of targets on Earth. We provide actionable insights to critical sectors including Energy, Mining, Agriculture & Forestry, Environmental & Emergency Monitoring, and Defense & Security, helping our clients optimize sustainable operations, mitigate risk, and enhance situational awareness globally.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Imagery Support Engineer to join our growing team. This associate level position plays a vital role in ensuring the quality, accuracy, and timely delivery of our hyperspectral imagery products, with a strong emphasis on meticulous tracking and analysis to optimize our delivery processes. You’ll work closely with our mission operations, product, and technical solutions teams to maintain high standards for data delivery and client experience. This is a great opportunity for someone passionate about remote sensing, geospatial data, and customer success who wants to grow with an innovative space-tech company.

What You'll Do:

  • Imagery Delivery & Performance Tracking:
  • Proactively track and manage multiple imagery deliveries across Google Sheets and internal dashboards, ensuring all deadlines and service level agreements (SLAs) are met.
  • Monitor and document multiple customer assets to ensure comprehensive coverage and identify the best imagery for client delivery.
  • Analyze imagery for quality, carefully evaluating multiple images to determine the optimal selections for client fulfillment.
  • Meticulously track and document reasons for non-delivery of images, providing accurate and detailed metrics on fulfillment rates and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Support the packaging, formatting, and timely delivery of imagery to clients.
  • Work with internal teams to ensure accurate and timely reporting on delivery metrics.
  • Strong scripting and coding skills—particularly in Python—are essential for this role. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience automating data tracking, and imagery QA/QC processes. Coding proficiency is core to streamlining operations, troubleshooting delivery issues, and driving continuous process improvements.
  • Imagery Quality Assurance:
  • Perform visual and technical quality checks on hyperspectral imagery and data products to ensure accuracy and consistency, directly informing delivery decisions.
  • Flag and report issues related to data quality, completeness, and delivery standards, ensuring only the best imagery is considered for delivery.
  • Customer Support & Success:
  • Act as a point of contact for clients, assisting with image delivery, basic troubleshooting, and inquiries related to data products, with a focus on communicating delivery status and addressing any delivery-related concerns.
  • Escalate technical issues to engineering and mission operations teams as needed, providing comprehensive context based on delivery metrics.
  • Help maintain customer support documentation and assist in onboarding materials, particularly as they relate to delivery processes.
  • Process Improvement:
  • Assist in identifying opportunities to streamline QA/QC and delivery processes, leveraging insights from delivery metrics to improve the overall customer experience.
  • Contribute to internal feedback loops to enhance OSK’s imagery products and services, with a focus on improving delivery efficiency and accuracy.

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Remote Sensing, Environmental Science, Earth Science, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Proven ability to manage and synthesize data from multiple spreadsheets (e.g., Google Sheets, Excel) and internal dashboards.
  • Familiarity with GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS) and satellite or aerial imagery.
  • Experience with Python, Jupyter, or basic scripting.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy, especially in tracking and analyzing data.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills—both written and verbal.
  • Comfortable working independently and in collaboration with a diverse, fast-paced team, with a proactive approach to problem-solving in delivery.
  • Basic technical troubleshooting skills or willingness to learn.

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience with remote sensing imagery (optical, hyperspectral, multispectral, or similar).
  • Interest in space technology, environmental monitoring, or geospatial intelligence.
  • Previous experience in customer support, client services, or QA/QC, especially with a focus on data tracking and reporting.
Compensation includes a competitive equity package. Final pay will depend on candidate's skills, geographic location, qualifications, and experience as defined during the interview process.
Location: San Francisco, CA (Hybrid model with a strong emphasis on collaboration in the office).

ITAR Requirements: U.S. Government space technologies export/ITAR regulations apply here, applicant must be a U.S. Citizen or a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
