This role, based at Schriever Space Force Base in Colorado Springs, CO, is essential in supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels.
Relocation assistance is not available for this position, and this role is on-site with no remote options.
Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is the core part of the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that allows the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, monitor battle progress, and actively manage designated networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission goals. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that provides an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. C2BMC acts as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations both worldwide and locally to enhance performance. Additionally, C2BMC is an essential part of all system ground and flight tests, which verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of the missile defense system.
Operate, maintain, and manage Linux-based systems supporting a software development environment. Responsible for the overall day-to-day operations of the Windows/Linux environment and overseeing backup and recovery (including disaster recovery) of system data.
Essential Functions:
- Ensure all data is being backed up regularly
- Ensure the backup system is functioning correctly, and periodically test the backup system by restoring files
- Respond appropriately to any security system/virus incident discovered
- Install, configure, monitor, manage, and maintain all Linux-based servers
- Create and maintain Linux server documentation
- Create and maintain Linux system administration processes and procedures
- Install, configure, manage, and maintain Linux server-based applications
- Ensure Linux-based systems have the appropriate patches installed, including but not limited to security, applications, and OS
- Ensure Linux-based systems are running current versions of antivirus software with current virus definition files
- Create, manage, and maintain:
- Security groups
- User accounts
- Windows/Linux server images
- Storage systems and devices
- Recommend system enhancements, including but not limited to:
- Servers
- Applications
- Storage
- Processes and procedures
- Recommend when additional system resources are required or when existing resources should be retired
- Ensure all appropriate asset management functions are completed as needed
- Ensure all Linux servers are configured to comply with all proper security policies
- Create, deploy, and maintain:
- Linux desktop and notebook images
- Notebook distribution packages for software applications
- Ensure Linux desktop and notebook computers are configured to comply with all appropriate security policies
- Assist the help desk in responding to end users' requests/issues
- Technical skills supporting a varied and diverse environment, including server setup, deployment, and maintenance
- Understanding of configuration managed Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS)
- Knowledge of what IT's role is in Continuous Integration and Delivery (CI/CD) and how it can be applied to PaaS
- Knowledge of applying containers (Docker) and use of container orchestration (Kubernetes)
- We are also looking for experience with containers.
- All other tasks as assigned by the IT site lead or IT manager
Basic Qualifications:
Please note your updated security clearance and IAT/relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics, or a related field is preferred from an accredited university, along with 5 years of experience; or a Master’s degree in a related field with 3 years of experience; or 9 years of relevant experience may be accepted instead of a degree
- Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Top Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required
- A DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (such as Security+ CE, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, SSCP, CCNA Security, etc.) is required to start
- Technical skills in the following are required:
- Linux system administration
- System Security Implementations
- Linux shell scripting
- Ansible playbook development and management
- Security-Enhanced (SE) Linux
- Red Hat repository administration
- Must also have a background or knowledge of Linux environments and administration
- Must have a working knowledge of Agile processes, principles, and practices.
- Must be an experienced problem solver and work well with team members in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with Linux products (Red Hat Linux) and use of Atlassian tools like Confluence and Jira

Salary Range: $91,200.00 - $136,800.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
