SSSD has an opening for a Mechanical Technician 2/3 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, California.
Performs a variety of duties assisting mechanical engineers in the fabrication and development of mechanical engineering designs, testing and modifications of assemblies and composites related hardware. With some supervision, the individual interprets detailed drawings for fabrication and must demonstrate good knowledge of composites processes including the use of autoclave/oven systems, hand tools, lay-up and bagging of parts to a variety of molds, honeycomb core panel fabrication and assembly, and bonding using assembly fixtures. Experience with trimming, drilling, and insert and bushing installation in composites hardware is highly desired. Individuals will interface with Manufacturing and Design engineering as well as Materials and Processes personnel. Individual must be able to demonstrate to Quality Assurance that work performed meets engineering drawing requirements. Works with chemicals. This position may be required to perform other duties as assigned. Must be willing to work any shift. Position requires 3 years minimum experience in the skills relative to the aerospace composites fabrication and assembly field. This position may be required to perform other duties as assigned. This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
Basic Qualifications:
- Mechanical Technician 2: High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years additional education and/or related experience.
- Mechanical Technician 3:High School diploma or equivalent and 4 years additional education and/or related experience.
- Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain U.S. Government security clearances: Department of Defense Top Secret level with a background investigation
- 3 years of experience performing composite Layup technician competencies
- Willing to work any shift and cover extended work weeks as required
- Hands-on knowledge and experience with Composite materials and the use of a variety of hand tools and mechanical equipment used in the processing of Composite hardware.
Preferred Qualifications:
- AA degree or other two-year technical degree
- Demonstrate technical knowledge in manufacturing operations and procedures as it pertains to Composite Layup, fabrication and assembly, with a high attention to detail.
- Experience working with complex engineering drawings, Composite process specification, and work order instructions.
- Experience working in clean room environments.
- Proficient in use of precision measuring instruments, hand tools, drills, torque wrenches, etc.
- 3 years of experience building/assembling composite hardware commonly found in aerospace environments.
