MANUFACTURING SPECIALIST (FALCON COMPONENTS)
The Propulsion Components team develops the most advanced launch vehicle components in the world. Our team serves as hardware experts for the flow control devices and mechanisms that drive the critical capabilities on our Falcon vehicles - from engine throttling to attitude control. We design, build and test valves, regulators, and actuators for maximum reliability in extreme environments, with temperatures ranging from +900F to -400F and pressures beyond 5,000 psig. Manufacturing specialists are primarily responsible for building, operating, and maintaining the critical test facilities and play a key role in the build process by providing feedback to engineers on how the resources will be operated and maintained.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide subject matter expertise on multiple manufacturing processes and products, including peer mentoring and development of teammates
- Perform tests independently or with engineers, according to test procedures and design requirements and provide data and preliminary test results to interested parties
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve processes, equipment, and the work environment, support productivity improvements
- Collaborate with engineers to develop and document test procedures
- Provide testing/building support for production on T1 product when needed
- Assist production teams with corrective actions
- Assist in the design of fixtures, assembly tooling, test setups, and stands to be used in production, and/or for development
- Assist in the tracking, procurement and servicing of critical calibrated instrumentation and spare hardware
- Identify and implement improvements to assembly and to test processes, assets, and procedures to increase efficiency of the team and the reliability of our processes
- Help to put together training material (TRNs, SOPs, etc.) for team members to increase the capability of the larger team
- Maintain clear communication with engineering, production, and scheduling teams as required
- Manage work orders, and implement process improvements to maximize safety and hardware reliability; minimize production waste and cost
- Collaborate with engineers, subject matter experts, supply chain, and technicians to solve small to large-scale production challenges
- Communicate on a daily basis with supporting departments such as production, engineering, maintenance, quality, and design engineering to ensure that product is delivered on time and at rate
- Develop, qualify, and refine manufacturing processes to meet all design and business requirements including safety, quality, efficiency and delivery
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, math, or science OR 4+ years of experience in a manufacturing or process planning role
- 2+ years of experience working in an aerospace manufacturing technician, planning, or direct support role
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Ability to read and understand electro-mechanical schematics
- Ability to read and understand Plumbing and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID)
- Ability to read mechanical assembly drawings and blue prints
- Ability to fabricate and repair electrical systems, including: soldering, crimping, and assembling connectors
- Ability to fabricate high pressure plumbing systems, including: tube flaring, tube bending, and cone-&-threading
- Ability to fabricate mechanical components and assemblies, including: milling, drilling, turning, and torqueing
- Knowledge/experience operating and maintaining pneumatic and hydraulic components, including: valves, regulators, and accumulators
- Knowledge/experience operating basic machine shop equipment, including: sanders, grinders, saws, and benders
- Knowledge/experience with test operations procedures including hydraulic load control, hydro/pneumatic pressure control, and safe handling of flight parts
- Knowledge/experience with high pressure or cryogenic systems (gaseous and liquid,) high voltage systems (AC and DC)
- Knowledge/experience working with electrical components and/or systems
- Experience with high volume or high mix manufacturing, or design for manufacture and product development life cycle, or quality tools including root cause and corrective action, PFMEAs, QMS and process auditing and statistical analysis of quality metrics
- Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment with ongoing drive for continuous improvement in all aspects of work
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and ability to succinctly present recommendations to stakeholders, the customer, and management
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be available to work all shifts, overtime and weekends as needed
- Must be able to maneuver in tight spaces
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted
- Must be able to stand for extended periods – 8 hours min.
- Will sometimes be working directly with the hardware on the floor and will have to be comfortable stooping, bending, and standing.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay range:
Manufacturing Specialist/ Level 1: $30.00 -$38.00/hour
Manufacturing Specialist/ Level 2: $34.00 - $43.00/hour
Manufacturing Specialist/ Level 3: $38.00 - $48.00/hour
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
