Position Description:

Voyager Space - Defense is seeking an experienced Financial Analyst III who understands forecasting, budgets, and ideally rates in a government contract environment. This is a critical function for the company, and the Financial Analyst III will analyze, report, and frame fact-based financial and business performance information for key decision makers. The selected candidate must possess strong analytical skills and financial acumen, and intellectual curiosity combined with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The position will be reported directly to the Finance Manager and will be located in Rancho Bernardo, CA.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Heavy focus on forecasting, team learning, and process improvements.
  • Perform detailed variance analysis of actual financial results versus plan, forecast, and key performance metrics.
  • Ensure operational departments understand and follow policies and procedures.
  • Provide daily leadership and coaching to direct reports and other team members.
  • Work closely with accounting to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Weekly tracking and reporting to program management and customers.
  • Develop and maintain Estimate at Complete (EAC's) across various projects (Cost-Type, T&M, Fixed Price, etc.).
  • Ensure cost-schedule integration by aligning financial data with schedules and resource plans. Serve as the primary financial interface between assigned and designated departments.
  • Report directly to management when necessary.
  • Review strategic and task order pricing, providing pricing recommendations.
  • Examine data to help with reducing costs in all operations.
  • Develop/conduct training of both program and functional staff in cost estimating and control.
  • Monitor project costs and commitment to budget and forecast.
  • Design reporting tools to monitor the cost of goods sold data.
  • Maximize profitability through product cost savings initiatives factoring in impact from sourcing strategy shifts, manufacturing practices, duty landscape, macro-economic variables, payment terms, logistics models, business and consumer needs.
  • Develop financial reporting tools and business models in support of product development efforts
  • Assist with the preparation of purchase orders and bid specifications.
  • Perform risk assessments to identify and mitigate program cost and scheduling risks.
  • Maintain variable cost files and price/volume variance analysis by product.
  • Work with key stakeholders to identify project risks and track them.
  • Consult on cost impacts of potential product engineering solutions for key product programs / categories.
  • Contribute to plans for yearly operations, budgets, and estimating new product costs, including economic analysis.
  • Assist with the annual budget process to provide guidance on material costs, direct labor, freight and manufacturing overhead standards.
  • Provide analytical support for cost savings, pricing and new product development initiatives.
  • Provide monthly, quarterly and yearly analysis of results.
  • Provide key performance indicators on areas such as mix, price, volume and other manufacturing expenses.
  • Planning, forecasting, and reporting total engine cost for a variety of legacy programs with deliveries to senior management.
  • Monthly presentations to VP, Ops, Engineering & Finance on key engine cost drivers / cost reduction projects.
  • Report monthly Sustaining Engineering hour and cost breakdown analysis.

 

Requirements:

  • Four (4) years to seven (7) years of professional experience in Business, Accounting, Finance or related fields.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven mindset.
  • Experience in bidding to different contract types (Commercial, FFP, CPFF, CPIF, T&M).
  • Experience and understanding of statistical analysis and limitations thereof (sample size implications, statistical power, forecast error, etc.)
  • CPA Certified Public Accountant or MBA is a plus
  • Ability to translate, present, and communicate complicated financial information into understandable and executable strategic plans.

Preferences:

  • Experience using spreadsheets, cost management and scheduling tools, PCA, AS/400, and SQL software and systems.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM) principles and financial reporting.
  • Comfortable with decision making and problem solving.
  • Skilled at cost estimates and cost analysis with an eye for detail.
  • Is a leader and negotiator.
  • Strives for continuous improvement.
  • Comfortable collaborating, negotiating, and planning budgets.
  • Experience with takeoffs, variance analysis, and change orders.

 

Salary Range: $120,000 - $155,000
