We are looking for an experienced Director, Station Responsible Engineer. This role is responsible for leading the design, development, and testing of Axiom Station; ensuring key performance metrics such as cost, schedule, and system performance are met. The Axiom Station Responsible Engineer will be responsible for defining and overseeing design milestones, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to implement requirements, and aligning technical and strategic objectives with Program Management and the Office of the Chief Engineer.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES   

  • Responsible for the implementation of Axiom Station requirements through design, build, and test

  • Responsible for ensuring that key performance metrics (station performance, cost, schedule, etc..) are met

  • Defines, implements and oversees design milestone strategy and is responsible for the successful completion of project milestones

  • Collaborate with the chief engineer and multidisciplinary module/section/product responsible engineers to decompose and implement requirements and design criteria at each level

  • Works with Program Management, Office of the Chief Engineer, and Engineering departments to align technical and strategic objectives

  • Manage trade-offs between competing priorities such as cost, performance, and reliability

  • Supports engineering staff in approach to and resolution of engineering challenges

    • Provides mentoring to program’s engineering and analysis teams

    • Models sound engineering principles and company core values

  • Leads and manages the team to optimize staff utilization and availability

  • Provides mentorship and professional guidance

  • Leverages extensive experience and judgment to plan and achieve objectives

  • Develop strategies and solutions to execute complex program initiatives

  • Enhance staff morale by collaborating with the People & Culture department to ensure internal equity, training, and development

  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or equivalent

  • Master’s degree preferred

  • 10+ years of experience leading large teams

  • 15+ years of experience with end-to-end product development of complex space systems

  • Multi-disciplinary knowledge and experience related to all engineering functions

  • Experience in managing government contracts with multiple contract types and established customer relationships

  • Experience managing large technical teams in a dynamic operational environment

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and engage with vital stakeholders

  • Demonstrated ability to manage risk and/or opportunity

  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to address project challenges

  • Demonstrated time management and organization skills to meet tight deadlines and quality objectives

  • Highly proficient in MS Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

  • Experience with Atlassian suite preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.

Requirements 

  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation

  • Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised

  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position

Physical Requirements

  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time)

  • May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time)
