Virgin Galactic is seeking a talented and motivated Spacewrench, SAT Technician to be a part of our Special Asset Team to support our mission. As a Spacewrench, SAT Tech, you will be maintaining, repairing, and inspecting all parts of the aircraft for our Special Asset Team.  The work location is at both Las Cruces international and Spaceport America. The candidate must be willing to travel between Las Cruces International Airport and Spaceport America. (A company vehicle will be provided for this purpose.) 

 

Responsibilities

  • Accomplishes assigned maintenance, preventive maintenance and repair work on the special asset team vehicles. (aerobatic aircraft such as the GB1 Gamebird and Extra 300L)

  • Checks, dismantles, adjusts, repairs, fabricates, removes and installs aircraft parts that may include propulsion systems, avionics equipment & instruments, fuel systems, environmental systems, and mechanical and hydraulic systems.

  • Performs service, maintenance, and inspections on flightlines and in non-climate controlled hangars.

  • Inspects aircraft, parts, sub-assemblies and completed assemblies to determine airworthiness.

  • Returns aircraft to service after maintenance and inspection in accordance with 14 CFR Part 43.9 and 43.11.

  • Documents in detail all work performed utilizing the Virgin Galactic approved database for compliance and recordkeeping.

  • Focuses on timeliness and execution of tasks and deliverables everyday.

  • Works collaboratively to achieve goals and/or complete assigned tasks.

 

You may be asked to perform other related duties and projects as business needs require at direction of management.

Required Skills and Experience

 

  • 3 years minimum General Aviation (GA) line and base maintenance experience; 5 years preferred.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Graduated from a technical college or other recognized apprenticeship.

  • Must have a valid Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved Airframe and Powerplant license (A&P License).

  • Must have or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license.

  • FAA Inspection Authorization (IA).

  • Experience with Lycoming engines.

  • Experience with aerobatic aircraft such as the GB1 Gamebird, Extra

  • Experience with composite aircraft (commercial or military aerospace application).

  • General knowledge of inverted oil systems.

  • Qualified to obtain Air Operations Area (AOA) access.

  • Firm grasp of procedures applicable to the various phases of maintenance.

  • Familiarity with life support systems (crew and passenger).

  • The ability to assume responsibility for the administration of policies and procedures.

  • Able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

  • Abililty to use computer applictions and MS Office suite of tools.

  • Demonstrates initiative in pursuit of company goals and values with safety at the core of all endeavors.

  • Seeks out diverse perspectives and helps one another win.

  • Holds themselves and one another accountable for getting the work done.

Physical Requirements

  • Work all shifts and available for overtime as well as weekends when needed.

  • Travel between work sites in Las Cruces and Spaceport America.

  • Travel 5% or more of the time.

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position – 8 hours minimum.

  • Able to maneuver in tight spaces through positioning self by stooping, bending, crawling – 3 hours minimum.

  • Physically able to handle items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds (unassisted).

 

The annual U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $64,235.00–$90,235.00. The base pay actually offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location, and experience and take into account internal equity. Other forms of pay (e.g., bonus or long term incentive) may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
