ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY ENGINEER
As part of the SpaceX Environmental Health & Safety team, you will establish human safety requirements for the design, build, and test for the manufacturing of our launch vehicles. This position will be responsible for ensuring that safe work practices are integrated into all aspects of the SpaceX workplace.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work closely with manufacturing teams to perform detailed safety reviews of complex hazardous operations to ensure safe execution
- Lead interdisciplinary incident investigations to prevent future damage through effective safety control implementation
- Develop and maintain compliance with all applicable regulations and/or guidelines established by OSHA, NFPA, and NIOSH and other applicable regulatory agencies
- Serve as the extreme owner of the Hawthorne campus Onsite Contractor Management Program
- Implement and develop safety and health programs including but not limited to:
- OSHA general industry and construction standards
- HAZCOM, hazmat, cryogenics, compressed gases
- Confined space, fall protection and lock-out/tag-out
- Radiation and laser safety
- Use spatial mapping software to plot safety critical assets and hazard locations
- Interface with databases to effectively address hazards/trends at scale
- Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations
- Develop, implement, and maintain emergency response plans (fires, spills, etc.)
- Perform environmental compliance and due diligence audits to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 1+ years of experience in the design, development and operational oversight of environmental, health and safety disciplines (student project team or internship experience qualifies); OR a master's degree
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience and/or education in construction safety
- A degree in engineering with an emphasis in occupational health and safety and/or environmental engineering
- Demonstrated ability to research and apply the best industrial and working practices to provide effective services
- Knowledge of process safety management methods, pressure systems, and chemical delivery systems
- Strong knowledge and experience in interpreting, applying and documenting federal, state and local safety and environmental regulations
- Experience with emergency response communication and incident management in incidents involving hazardous and non-hazardous material releases to air, soil, and water
- Experience using ArcGIS or geo-spatial mapping software
- Experience writing data languages (SQL, Tableau, PowerBI)
- Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
- Strong emotional intelligence, communication skills, and proven track record of navigating high-stress situations
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- This is not a remote or hybrid position and will require relocation if not already local to the Hawthorne, CA area
- Position occasionally requires the ability to work extended hours and weekends when needed
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay range:
Level I: $95,000.00 - $115,000.00/per year
Level II: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00/per year
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
