The Position Details: 

MDA Space is currently seeking a Electrical Engineer at the Sr. MTS/Engineer level in the field of Electrical Systems Design on our Robotics & Space Operations team at our Brampton office.  

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Electrical Engineering Department in a variety of tasks. As a member of the Electrical Engineering Team you will work in the Logistics & Sustaining Engineering (L&SE) program (to support On-Orbit Space Station activities), and/or the Gateway External Robotics System (GERS) program, and/or the planetary/lunar rovers’ programs, and/or R&D activities.  

With over 40 years of operational experience and proven performance on the iconic Canadarm programs including Space Shuttle and International Space Station robotics and operations support, our Robotics & Space Operations team has 100% mission success in making space dreams come true.   

Duties and Responsibilities:  

The interested candidates do not need to be experienced in all areas below but should demonstrate knowledge in the following areas:  

Systems Engineering:    

  • Skilled in developing specifications (i.e. requirements) and V&V plans for electrical systems and avionics units  
  • Experienced with the design, development, and verification of electrical systems and avionics from planning to execution 
  • Supporting business development pertaining to electrical system engineering designs and costing activities 
  • Broad exposure to electrical engineering including digital system design and firmware V&V, embedded mixed signal systems, power systems, motor control, and/or electro-optical designs 
  • Capable of determining design alternatives and performing trade studies to choose a solution 
  • Understanding of environmental requirements including electromagnetic compatibility, radiation, thermal, and structural requirements 
  • Ability to coordinate and negotiate with other engineering disciplines including software, mechanical, control systems, and product assurance 
  • Familiarity with electrical workmanship and quality standards would be an asset 

What This Role Will Need:  

  • Design, development and verification of electrical systems from planning to execution 
  • Proposing design alternatives to choose a viable solution for better electrical interface capabilities for Payloads 
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, communication and organization skills 
  • Comfortable with technical presentations to customers like CSA and NASA for design reviews 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, self-starter and dedication to meet project deadlines 
  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic, and a positive thinker 

Assets: 

  • 8-10years of experience in an electrical systems or similar role 
  • Organized, self-starter, attention to detail
  • Experience with/Knowledge of MS Excel, MS Visio, VBA, NI LabVIEW
  • Experience using Electrical CAD tools such as ORCAD, Altium, AutoCAD/AutoCAD Electrical, MATLAB and PSPICE Simulators
  • Familiarity with working in Lunar Dust environments including performing analysis for dust impact, designing for lunar dust and testing space hardware in a lunar dust environment 
  • Familiarity with the space environment is an asset

Requirements:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering: Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, Systems or Engineering Physics/ Physics
  • Strong oral, written and verbal communication skills
  • Result orientated and exhibits excellent critical thinking
  • Works well in a dynamic environment and to a specific set of requirements
  • Team player that demonstrated high level of integrity
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Comments/Special Considerations:

Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the reliability status level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP).

The compensation range for this position is $110,000 - $158,000 annually. The specific compensation offered will be based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
