Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Launch and Missile Defense Systems offers an exciting career opportunity for a Sr Principal System Administrator – COS IT System Administrator (25-262) to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals. This position, located in Colorado Springs, CO, plays a crucial role in supporting the U.S. President, Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program serves as the integrating element of the Missile Defense System. It is an essential operational system that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, collectively observe the battle's development, and dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that facilitates an optimized response to threats of all ranges at all phases of flight. C2BMC acts as a force multiplier, globally and regionally networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to enhance performance. Additionally, C2BMC is a crucial component of all system ground and flight tests, which verify and exercise the current and future capabilities of the missile defense system.

The selected candidate will operate, maintain, and manage a Windows/Linux-based domain that supports a software development environment. They will be responsible for the overall day-to-day operations of the Windows/Linux environment, as well as for backup and recovery, including disaster recovery, of system data.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensure that all data is backed up in accordance with COOP and BCP guidelines
  • Ensure the backup system is functioning correctly and periodically test it by restoring files
  • Respond appropriately to any discovered security or virus incidents in the system
  • Install, configure, monitor, manage, and maintain all Windows/Linux-based servers
  • Create and maintain Windows/Linux system administration processes and procedures
  • Install, configure, manage, and maintain all Windows/Linux server-based applications
  • Ensure that all Windows/Linux-based systems have the appropriate patches installed, including but not limited to security, applications, and OS updates
  • Make sure all Windows and Linux systems are using the most up-to-date antivirus software with the latest virus definition files
  • Create, manage, and maintain group policy objects, security groups, and user accounts
  • Monitor, manage, and maintain storage systems and devices
  • Recommend system enhancements, including, but not limited to, servers, applications, storage, processes, and procedures
  • Advise when additional system resources are needed or when existing resources should be retired
  • Ensure all necessary asset management functions are completed as required
  • Perform all other tasks assigned by the IT site lead or IT manager as needed
  • Assist the help desk in addressing end-users' requests and issues

Basic Qualifications:

Please note your updated security clearance and IAT/relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related discipline is preferred from an accredited university, accompanied by 8 years of experience; or a Master’s degree in a related discipline with 6 years of experience; or 12 years of related experience may be considered instead of a degree
  • Applicants must possess a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is necessary to start
  • DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (Security+ CE, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, SSCP, CCNA Security, etc.) is required to start
  • Senior Windows Domain experience
  • Must possess a working knowledge and experience in Windows and Linux system administration
  • Must have experience with:
    • System Security Implementations
    • Network Attached Storage administration
    • IBM Server Backup administration
  • Must know of:
    • Git
    • Nexus
    • Jenkins
    • Jira, and Confluence
  • Understand the concept of PaaS and SaaS
  • Knowledge of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery, and how it applies to IT and IT products
  • Technical skills supporting a Windows environment, including server setup, deployment, maintenance, and hardening
  • Must also have a background and knowledge of Linux environments and administration
  • Must have working knowledge of Agile principles and practices
  • Understanding of configuration managed Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS)
  • Knowledge of what IT's role is in Continuous Integration and Delivery (CI/CD) and how it can be applied to PaaS
  • Knowledge of applying containers (Docker) and use of container orchestration (Kubernetes)

Additional Northrop Grumman Information:

Salary Range: $113,500.00 - $170,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
