Successful candidates for this position will work in a technical role for space and ground programs in Dulles, VA within the Tactical Space Systems Division. This position offers the opportunity to work on exciting, cutting-edge programs and new mission areas in the following areas to support next generation space capabilities. The successful candidate will have a working knowledge of RF theory and concepts. They will have analytical skills to review requirements, test plans, and test scenarios; and the ability to effectively communicate across teams. They should be self-directed, organized, and team oriented.

Responsibilities include development of antenna architectures, requirements generation/flow down; subsystem analysis, performance modeling, support for performance testing, requirements verification, and more.  Work is performed without appreciable direction and exercising considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignments, including:

  • Interface between classified and unclassified teams to keep the development efforts aligned.

  • Lead the overall design and development effort.

  • Interface with the chief engineers on other programs to ensure that mutual benefit without duplication of effort.

  • Attend design reviews and weekly meetings, contributing experience and insight to ensure success on experiments.

  • Deliver efficient and effective communication of design and architecture to hardware and software design engineers.

  • Mentor and engineers and other staff members.

  • CONOPS and Mission Analysis

  • Interfaces and Interface Control Documentation

  • Systems Level Integration and Test

  • Verification and Validation

  • Requirement analysis and functional decomposition

  • System modeling and simulation

This position will expose the candidate to equal parts technical competency, forward thinking ideas, and execution focus. This position utilizes abilities to interact in an organized and solutions-oriented manner, with external entities who are contributing elements of the integrated ground and space segment.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • B.S. in STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or related area and 12 years of experience; M.S. in STEM or related area and 10 years of experience; Ph.D. in STEM or related area and 8 years of experience.

  • Must have US Citizenship with current or active Top Secret clearance with ability to obtain SCI

  • Effectively demonstrate understanding of fundamental RF principles, and Antenna/RF Performance Analysis.

  • Strong understanding of AESA / phased array, Radar, SIGINT, or SATCOM sensors.

Preferred Experience:

  • US Citizenship with current or active Top Secret/SCI clearance

  • Subsystem requirements (hardware and software) derivation, flow-down, and configuration.

  • Expertise in Antenna Measurements and Data Reduction, including RF budget analysis and performance evaluation.

  • Strong MATLAB programming skills, with ability to develop scripts and functions with a focus on processing and analyzing large amounts of data.

  • Hands on experience with RF Test equipment (e.g. Vector Network Analyzer/Spectrum Analyzer).

  • Experience with a space or ground system development program

  • Desired experience includes one or more of the following: mission system requirements, verification/validation planning, mission planning/execution, mission analysis, modeling/simulation, system trade studies, and expertise with various engineering tools such as MATLAB, STK, and similar tools.

  • Background working systems engineering.

  • Requirements management using DOORS and/or Cameo

Salary Range: $171,000.00 - $256,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
