Position Purpose: The Technical Director of Microsat provides Programmatic and Technical leadership and supervision of M-Line programs (half-ESPA and larger spacecraft). This is an indirect position with expectations of direct charging programs at 20%. Position reports to the Executive Director of Spacecraft with occasional reporting responsibility to GM and parent organization.

Pay Range: $150,000 - $281,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure M-Line programs meet contract requirements, profit commitments, and BCT quality standards
  • Adjudicate technical, programmatic, resource, and facility disputes for M-Line programs
  • Review technical designs for requirements compliance, execution feasibility and risk
  • Functional manager for M-Line program managers (timesheet review and approval, career development, program assignments)
  • Functional manager for M-Line System Engineering Lead and M-Line Avionics Lead
  • Mentor and provide technical support to M-Line program managers
  • Voting member of the M-Line change control board (CCB)
  • Temporary M-Line PM duties when needed
  • Maintain M-Line PM/SE workforce (track staffing needs, supporting hiring/talent acquisition)
  • Review and Provide Product line approval for proposals within the position’s Delegation of Authority
  • Responsible for product line IRAD proposals, budgets, and status reporting
  • Provide customer interface service for ongoing programs
  • Conduct internal program monthly reviews (PMRs)
  • Other responsibilities as

 

Required Qualifications/Education:

  • At least 15 years of related experience 
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required; Master’s degree in Engineering preferred 
  • Extensive system engineering skills, including requirements interpretation and verification
  • Strong understanding of BCT business plans (AOP, LRP) and how M-Line products fit into those plans
  • Ability to perform trade studies and parametric analyses
  • Ability to evaluate emerging technologies against business case needs
  • Program management experience with NASA, NOAA, DoD, and/or IC customers and both FFP and CP contracts
  • Strong situational awareness – ability to “read the room”, work with external customers, internal peers, as well as internal management
  • Results-oriented temperament, with leadership style that empowers and energizes the PM and SE teams
  • Understanding of BCT command media and how it applies to M-Line programs
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills
  • Expected to flow down information from BCT executive leadership meetings, promote BCT policy adherence (including training), and flow up information to the executive leadership as needed.
  • Must be willing and able to provide constructive criticism to their direct reports, and have difficult conversations as needed to promote optimal health of the team
  • Expected to work with Engineering and Operations to resolve disagreements, assess risks, and find mutually acceptable paths forward, as much as possible without escalating to higher levels of leadership
  • Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education


Working Conditions:

This job operates in a professional office environment, but in a manufacturing company. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines. 
BCT anticipates the application window closing approximately 40 days from the date the
