AST SpaceMobile and our global partners are building the first and only space-based cellular broadband network to be accessible by standard smartphones. Called SpaceMobile, this ultra-powerful network is being designed to provide connectivity at 4G/5G speeds everywhere on the planet – on land, at sea and in flight.

Summary:

The Associate Systems Engineer is responsible for creating and using simulations, data analysis tools, and algorithms that pertain to satellite design and operations. They are also responsible for working with a variety of subsystems and teams to provide support on tasks that require multi-system awareness or an expertise in satellite systems engineering.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Using existing constellation and satellite simulation tools in support of both the operational and developmental phases of satellite project life cycles
  • Writing, modifying, and expanding upon simulations used to model constellation and satellite behaviors including ground segment interactions
  • Formulating and optimizing algorithms for data analysis of satellite telemetry, the usage of operational satellites, or in the proof-of-concept phase of in-flight software development
  • Support development of concept of operations uses cases, flows, and transitions across all satellite on-orbit activities
  • Writing ground scripts to support generating, collecting, and analyzing data from models and/or downloaded satellite telemetry
  • Coordinating with subsystem and discipline teams to identify and support inter-team interactions
  • Developing test plans and performing tests on satellite hardware
  • Assisting various teams with analyses of satellite capabilities and behaviors in response to specific requests for support

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering or a related field (Master's preferred)
  • Experience writing functions and scripts for data analysis and modeling (e.g. Python, MATLAB)
  • Good communication and presentation skills (written, verbal, and face-to-face)
  • Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident Green card holder or have a legal US work permit

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in systems engineering with a focus on analysis and design
  • Background in LEO constellation design and analysis

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to traverse the production facility
  • Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times
