Northrop Grumman, Strategic Space Systems Division, has an opening for a Thermal Insulated Products Manager 2, to join our team of highly qualified and diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, California.

The Environmental and Specialty Test department has a need for a Thermal Insulated Products Manager 2 to be a functional homeroom manager for the Thermal Insulated Products organization, leading a team of individual contributors, and contribute directly to programs and other department activities.

This is a highly dynamic, interactive position. You will interact with numerous stakeholders including program management, business team, systems engineering, flight hardware design engineers and logistical support services. Outstanding organizational and leadership skills are required to succeed in these roles.

FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Staffing support to all space systems and space programs.

  • Conducting periodic performance evaluations, including mid-year and annual reviews

  • Providing technical leadership and guidance to the staff

  • Managing indirect budgets and capital assets

  • Professional development and mentoring of direct reports

  • Developing and overseeing the execution of process documentation and training materials

  • Establishing capabilities and processes that support long-range strategic goals for the Thermal Insulation Products organization

PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Performing the research, design, and development of multi-layer insulation (MLI) for the Thermal Insulation Products organization

  • Performing production and manufacturability assessments on thermal insulation products and providing input to design engineering to enhance manufacturability, quality and performance

  • Providing project management support utilizing tools such as earned value measurement system (EVMS) and forward-looking predictive metrics (i.e., leading indicators)

  • Identifying and initiating corrective action of problems, discrepancies and deficiencies to ensure requirements (technical, schedule & cost) are met and product quality is not compromised

  • Ensuring effective coordination between the design teams (Vehicle Engineering, Thermal, Contamination Control, etc.) and MLI

  • Planning and coordinating the preparation of project documentation, such as integration procedures (CAPE), engineering drawings, and production specifications/schedules, to ensure customer requirements are met

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) related field plus 5 years of experience in a technical role OR a Master's of Science Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) related field plus 3 years of experience in a technical role OR High School Diploma/G.E.D plus 9 years of experience in a technical role.

  • Proven leadership experience on a project and/or team.

  • Possesses strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance or SCI Access.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An active SSBI, SCI or Top-Secret clearance

  • Experience in mechanical design

  • Experience in space system manufacturing, integration, test and/or launch

  • Experience in Thermal Insulation Products methodologies

Salary Range: $142,200.00 - $213,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
