This position will be based in Colorado Springs, CO, or Huntsville, AL.

Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, collectively view the battlefield, and dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that provides an optimized response to threats of all ranges throughout all phases of flight. C2BMC acts as a force multiplier, globally and regionally networking and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to enhance performance. C2BMC is integral to all system ground and flight tests, verifying and exercising all current and future missile defense system capabilities.
The Interface Engineer will lead the development of ICDs and IDDs, which include establishing new interfaces between external elements, such as sensors, and other Command and Control Systems. The Interface Engineer will ensure that the created ICDs and IDDs meet the appropriate standards required for the program. Additionally, it is expected that the Interface Engineer will develop various behavioral diagrams to understand and document the requirements. This position will be assigned to the C2BMC Systems Engineering Team within SEIT. The Interface Engineer is a Systems Engineer and may occasionally support non-interface systems engineering activities.
Essential Functions:
- Will create requirements, captured in DOORS, with sufficient detail to provide a clear understanding to the implementation teams
- The Interface Engineer's primary responsibility will be to develop and update multiple Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Interface Design Documents (IDDs)
- The successful candidate will participate in interface working group meetings with the MDA customer and representatives from the assigned external engineering organization, as well as assist with program integration and test-related efforts for the associated interface
- The successful candidate may also support other interface engineers in developing ICDs for additional BMDS elements, as well as fulfill requirements engineering, use case development, and logical architecture modeling tasks as needed by the SE department
- The successful candidate will assist spiral leadership in ensuring that interface artifacts and system assessment tasks needed for the assigned sensor interface are completed as required
Salary range in Huntsville: $131,100 - $196,700
Salary range in Colorado Springs: $124,900 - $187,300
Basic Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field such as Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related discipline from an accredited university, along with 8 years of relevant work experience, or a Master’s degree in a related STEM field with 6 years of experience (preferred), or a PhD in a related discipline accompanied by 4 years of pertinent work experience
- Applicants must possess a current, active, in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is necessary to start
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs
- Must have a comprehensive understanding of the systems engineering process and its foundational principles
- Must have a demonstrated history of successfully applying systems engineering principles to develop product solutions
- Must have experience in requirements elicitation, including using behavior diagrams as an analysis tool to understand and break down requirements
- Must demonstrate skills and experience in Systems Engineering and interface engineering, including:
- Authoring of Interface Control Documents (ICDS) and Interface Design Documents (IDDS)
- Message definition and processing rules
- message formatting (e.g., XML, VMF, et al)
- Physical/network specifications and models, to include the ISO OSI model
- Physical/network topologies and devices; network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP, etc.)
- The following requirements for engineering and the development of behavioral models and diagrams are necessary:
- Use cases
- Sequence diagrams
- Activity diagrams
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential
- Experience with IBM Rational's Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS) is required
- Must possess substantial experience in authoring ICDs and IDDs that comply with DID standards and meet DoD requirements
- Must be capable of functioning as part of an experienced team in developing systems engineering products and artifacts while adhering to the program's Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP) and other processes
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Systems Engineering
- Certification: INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) Certification
- Certification: Object Management Group Certified Systems Modeling Professional - Model Builder Fundamental (OCSMP - MBF)
- Experience with a Risk Management Framework (RMF)-based cybersecurity and Agile or iterative development methods is a plus
- Experience in authoring Missile Defense System (MDS) ICDs and IDDs is highly desirable
- Experience in authoring complex Command and Control Systems ICDs and IDDs is highly desirable

Salary Range: $124,900.00 - $196,700.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
