Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a vital element of the Missile Defense System. It enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to plan ballistic missile defense operations, monitor battle developments, and manage networked sensors and weapons systems to accomplish mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability, optimizing responses to threats throughout all phases of flight. It is essential to all system ground and flight tests, verifying and exercising current and future missile defense capabilities.

System safety engineering and the development of program safety plans will provide the engineering team with the application of safety policies and guidance. The individual will support MDA and other program personnel as required, along with additional system engineering tasks as needed. The successful candidate will interface with team members and National Team management to ensure that high-quality products are generated on time and within the available resources.

Essential Functions:

As a Principal Systems Engineer, you will play a crucial role in managing an on-site team providing engineering support. Your responsibilities are pivotal to our mission and include:

  • Integration of the product lines
  • Generation of responsible sections of the capability specifications
  • Training less experienced personnel in SE and Safety techniques
  • Reviewing the content and details of technical products, and acting as a technical interface to MDA working level counterparts on an as-required basis

Basic Qualifications:

Please ensure your updated security clearance and IAT/relevant certifications are noted on your resume, if applicable.

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Systems Engineering, Mathematics, or related disciplines) from an accredited university and 5 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline or related area with 3 years of experience, or a PhD with at least 1 year of related work experience or 9 years of related work experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Applicants must possess a current, active DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is necessary to start with the ability to obtain Top Secret clearance
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs
  • Must have a background in System Engineering with a focus on System and Software Safety
  • Analyzing the design to ensure safety requirements are met
  • Ability to apply engineering principles to investigate and recommend design features that meet safety criteria in system design for controlling or eliminating hazards.
  • Experience in developing safety documents to support customer and test requirements (SAR, SRA, SSPP)
  • Experience with hazard identification
  • Experience participating in System Safety Working Groups
  • Must possess knowledge of MIL-STD-882E
  • Experience in systems engineering and software systems engineering is required for developing new systems and integrating existing systems.
  • Ability to analyze high-level needs and, with a structured and logical approach, refine these needs into an integrated set of hardware and software.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Able to communicate effectively and present technical approaches and findings

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Having an active and current Top Secret clearance is highly desired
  • Master's Degree in Systems Engineering
  • Certification: INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) Certification
  • Certification: Object Management Group Certified Systems Modeling Professional - Model Builder Fundamental (OCSMP - MBF)

Salary Range: $91,200.00 - $136,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
