Job description

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

DATA ENGINEER, REGULATORY (STARLINK)

SpaceX is leveraging its experience building rockets and spacecraft to deploy Starlink, the world’s most advanced broadband internet system. Starlink is the world’s largest satellite constellation and is providing fast, reliable internet to 5M+ users worldwide. We design, build, test, and operate all parts of the system – thousands of satellites, consumer receivers that allow users to connect within minutes of unboxing, and the software that brings it all together. We’ve only begun to scratch the surface of Starlink’s potential global impact.

As we continue to upgrade and expand the constellation, we’re looking for best-in-class data engineers to join the team. This position will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining mission-critical services, tools, processes to simplify and accelerate data accessibility across regulatory/licensing data and other critical Starlink data.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build tools and workflows that improve internal efficiency and collaboration, prevent internal data silos and process breakdowns, and scale with global growth
  • Automate time-intensive, repetitive tasks to significantly reduce manual effort
  • Fuse data from multiple unstructured sources to build organized, usable data repositories
  • Create shared tools that enable self-service access, allowing teams to explore and analyze data independently
  • Build and maintain high quality automation to assist with Starlink’s policy objectives and continued growth
  • Work closely with Starlink Regulatory and partner teams to assess future needs and position the company accordingly

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, physics, mathematics, or a STEM discipline
  • 1+ years of experience in analytics, data science, data engineering, or software engineering
  • 1+ years of experience in Python and SQL

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Understanding of database structures, schema design, query optimizations, ETL development
  • Experience with automation (demonstrated skills with VBA, Python, etc.)
  • Experience working with in-stream data processing of structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data
  • Experience creating and managing dashboards using data visualization tools (i.e. Tableau, Power BI)
  • Experience working in a Linux environment
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships across disciplines and with multiple levels of management
  • Exceptional ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences at all organizational levels
  • Ability to take on projects that require taking initiative and developing new expertise
  • Demonstrated ability to own projects from start to completion

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position is based in Bastrop, TX and requires being onsite - remote work not considered
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time
  • Must be willing to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed
  • This role may be subject to pre-employment drug and random drug and alcohol testing

ITAR REQUIREMENTS:

  • To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
