Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking to hire a Staff Systems Engineer to join its team of diverse and qualified individuals. This position is in Roy, UT and will support the Sentinel program. Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force’s sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities and associated infrastructure.
What you will get to do:
This candidate will join the Sentinel Systems Engineering, Integration, & Test (SEIT) Segment’s Software & System Integration Team (SSIT) Element and contribute to the Weapon System Integration (WSI) Electrical Design Integration (EDI) Team. This role will serve as one of the Weapon System Electrical Design Integration Subject Matter Experts (SME), who will be responsible for integrating all segment and lower-level team’s designs such that fundamental electrical engineering principles are being exercised appropriately throughout the design lifecycle. Candidates must be able to understand the intent of Weapon System design at the highest levels and drive engineering processes & analyses into specific product team designs to prove successful design integration and identify potential gaps. This candidate will demonstrate strong leadership and foundational systems engineering skills to drive process and technical gap resolution of interface and requirement design solutions to achieve program/contract objectives. Demonstrated ability to foster diverse and inclusive teams with high levels of engagement, including mentoring and coaching, are a must. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required, as well as demonstrated success collaborating and leading Engineering teams.
- Performs electrically focused requirement analysis and decomposition as part of the systems engineering translation of customer requirements into hardware/software specifications
- Performs analyses to evaluate all levels of the system to ensure a cohesive electrical-system solution throughout the development lifecycle (concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal)
- Manages electrical interfaces (such as data, power, RF) and develops the corresponding system-level interconnect/block/grounding diagrams, electrical schematics and global connectivity list for the weapon system
- Oversees the technical planning, design integration, product integration, verification, and validation efforts -for the electrical-system elements throughout the development lifecycle -Influences the electrical-system design to facilitate electrical testing at the component and subsystem level
- Manage hardware command and telemetry implementation (e.g. develop and coordinate calibration and conversion curves for analog telemetry in coordination subsystem engineers, verify electrical/software implementation)
- Verify electrical connectivity implementation (e.g. verify electrical harness implementation, safety-critical circuit segregation, support peer-reviews)
- Support physical layer verification (e.g. signal integrity)
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with team members from multiple subsystems and Subject Matter Experts (SME) to achieve integrated solutions. This can include Program -Management (PM), Chief Engineer (CE), Lead Systems Engineer (LSE), Electronic Power Systems (EPS), Command and Data Handling (CDH), Integration and Test (I&T), and customer counterparts
- Develops and evaluates electrical system architecture alternatives in concert with the broader systems engineering effort to select an electrical-system architecture that meets the customer’s needs. Drive design to completion and solve design issues

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 12 years of experience with Bachelor's degree, 10 years of experience with Master's degree, 8 years of experience with PhD
- Must be a US Citizen with an active DoD Secret Clearance with an investigation date within the last 6 years
- Must be able to be successfully screened for Enhanced Security Clearances, within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs
- 5 years of experience working on ICBMs or other ground to air-based systems
- 7 years of electrical and systems engineering experience in at least two of the following: electrical architecture, design, interface definition (internal and/or external), development and test of mixed signal circuits, power distribution, or avionics system integration for aerospace/defense
- 1 year of previous program milestone execution experience, including but not limited to Systems Requirements Review, System Functional Review, Preliminary Design review.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Past/Active employment with MMIII or Sentinel Weapon Systems with substantial execution toward electrical engineering technical products
- Experience with high-power and high-frequency systems, including power electronics, RF telemetry, and secure communications.
- Knowledge of EMI/EMC design, test, shielding techniques, thermal management for electronic systems, component to ground/air based electrical system grounding schema, isolation, ground loops and characterization, and power quality
- Familiarity with hardware qualification processes, including environmental testing, vibration, and shock testing.
- Hands-on experience with system integration, troubleshooting, and flight test support.
- Experience in hypersonic vehicle, missile, or high-speed aircraft programs.
- Knowledge of radiation-hardened electronics and fault-tolerant design for extreme conditions.
- Knowledge of power converter topologies, micro-grid, grid-connected power electronics, grid-connected batteries
- Knowledge of complex system interfacing, signal integrity, power loss
- Experienced with signal acquisition (filtering, Analog to Digital Converter)
- Model-based design and test background (e.g. Simulink, SPICE, AMESim, Saber, LabView)
- Experience in System Modeling Language (SysML) using Cameo or other system modeling tools
- Experience on prime integrated systems (not just component/subsystem).
- Experience in electrical manufacturing (e.g. board, unit, harness)
- Experience contributing towards various phases of a program lifecycle
- Familiarity with DoD acquisition processes, milestone reviews, and government contracting.
- Experience in maintaining and reporting status of program activities
