Maxar Intelligence is seeking a Communications leader for its US Government business in Herndon, VA. In this role, you will be responsible for all internal and external communications for the US Government business, based out of Herndon, VA. Reporting to the Vice President, USG Strategic Communications, you will work closely with GM, USG and cross-functional stakeholders across the company to tell the Maxar Intelligence story through a broad range of media and channels. This role will work collaboratively with members of the US Government marketing team to build integrated marketing and communications plans to include executive thought leadership, corporate announcements, blog posts, media interviews, product campaign deployments, and employee communications and engagement activities. We are looking for a passionate, experienced communicator with extensive knowledge of the U.S. government geospatial intelligence landscape.
Responsibilities:
External
- Define communications strategy for all audiences (USG customers and partners, employees, and other key stakeholders) aligning to Maxar business objectives and business development pipeline.
- Design and track external communications performance metrics.
- Develop and implement communications initiatives that promote Maxar’s innovation and track record of performance in Earth Intelligence to existing and potential customers.
- Maintain an editorial calendar of activities in the company’s USG business and produce timely press releases, e-newsletters, publications, blogs, and social media content.
- Develop thought leadership platforms and pursue opportunities to showcase the USG GM and other Maxar Intelligence leaders and subject matter experts in the media and among industry associations.
- Prepare members of the organization for interviews and public appearances with media training, talking points, speechwriting, and mock interviews.
- Partner with Maxar’s agencies to proactively engage industry, tech, business, and trade media to generate news coverage for the company’s contract awards, technology demonstrations, products, services, programs, and people.
Internal
- Ensure organizational and strategic initiatives are successfully communicated to Maxar Intelligence USG employees and stakeholders.
- Plan and develop content for a variety of internal communications media, such as the employee emails, videos, or blogs.
- Support leadership and company meetings with messaging, presentation development, speaker selection and logistics.
- Mine the Maxar Intelligence organization for stories that highlight employee contributions to Maxar’s technology leadership, customer missions, and community engagement, with an eye for repurposing content for external audiences.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field.
- Minimum of 9 years of professional experience, primarily in public sector communications, internal communications, media, public relations, or related fields.
- Experience collaborating and communicating with U.S. government defense, U.S. allies and intelligence agencies to announce and increase awareness of public-private partnerships, contract awards, technology programs, cooperative research and development initiatives, etc.
- Experience working with executive and senior leadership to craft successful communications strategies.
- Outstanding project management skills; ability to organize a busy workload and meet aggressive deadlines.
- Good judgment, personal accountability, high integrity.
- Ability to travel 15-20% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to obtain TS/SCI security clearance.
- Extensive writing and editing experience with an uncompromising eye for quality and clarity, applying appropriate tone, detail, and message elevation for each audience.
- Demonstrated understanding of the U.S. government procurement process to include shaping, capture and keep-it-sold communications strategies.
- Strong knowledge of Earth Intelligence technology and its role in global security.
- Ability to put together a comprehensive global strategic communications plan aligning to its business pipeline and strategic growth plan.
- Excel at storytelling and able to craft narratives that tie together corporate strategic objectives, brand promise, and employee experience.
- Comfortable working with executives and in a cross-functional, matrixed organization.
