Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a passionate Senior Principal Software Engineer to join our team. This role will be based in Roy, Ut. and support the Sentinel Program.

We're looking for a Senior Principal Software Engineer and full stack developer to develop and deliver next-generation software solutions for multi-domain defense applications. This role requires a hands-on technical expertise with proven experience across the full software lifecycle, and the ability to mentor, collaborate, and drive scalable, containerized architectures in secure environments.  

Your responsibilities will also include:
• Develop vertically traceable requirements
• Design and implement software to meet documented requirements
• Develop and lead code unit testing and peer reviews of other developers’ changes
• Participate in the full life cycle of software development
• Participate in efforts in Agile development including iteration planning and reporting
• Troubleshoot and debug software in both desktop and target environments
• Build, integrate, and maintain microservices and REST APIs
• Develop scalable data pipelines and workflows to support data analysis
• Design and implement software interfaces
• Ensure technical feasibility of UI/UX designs in collaboration with front-end teams
• Work assigned defect reports to support incremental product builds and releases
• Participate in integration of software in lab environments
• Support use case development, requirements solicitation, derivation, and decomposition
• Utilize advanced software engineering practices, including development in C++ and Python
• Develop and maintain software across full stack environments (including containerized apps and UX layers)
• Apply best practices for system-to-system integrations using REST services, APIs, ESBs, and microservices
• Support software development in Windows and Linux environments, including use of virtual machines
• Utilize tools such as Git, Jira, Jenkins, Sonarqube, Bitbucket, Coverity, and Fortify
• Apply knowledge of CMAKE scripting and version control
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align software solutions with business objectives

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.  This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

Basic Qualifications: 
• 8 Years experience with Bachelors in relevant field of study; 6 Years with Masters, 4 Years with PhD or 4 additional years in lieu of a degree.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen with an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application with an investigation completed within the last 6 years.
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Security clearance. 
• Must have an ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need.
• 5+ years of experience with object-oriented design and development using C++ and Python
• 5+ years of experience working in an Agile environment
• 5+ years of experience with full stack software development
• Professional experience with Windows & Linux operating systems and virtualized environments
• Professional experience with cross-functional collaboration and requirement alignment
• Knowledge of database systems, preferably PostgreSQL

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) discipline 
• Active U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance
• Active Special Access Program (SAP) read-in
• Professional experience with DevSecOps and automated testing frameworks
• Professional experience in software development lifecycle and Agile methodology
• Professional experience with IBM Rational (DOORS) and Atlassian tools (JIRA, Git, Confluence)
• Professional experience with real-Time Component Framework (RTCF)
• Professional experience developing in a Linux environment using Git
• Proficiency in scripting/programming languages including C++, Python, and C#
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
• Prior experience in System Test, SW Development, and/or Systems Engineering
• Familiarity with software interfacing and containerized deployments
• Strong decision-making and analytical problem-solving skills

Salary Range: $118,600.00 - $178,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
